A little gem. Had a fantastic weekend stay at The Smugglers. From the minute we checked in to the moment we left, the staff made us very welcome. The restaurant served superb steaks cooked on their charcoal grill. thank you Mark and Emily and all the staff. They are a real credit to your hard work in making this hotel a lovely place to unwind and relax. Andrew and Sam

Very warm welcome very attentive food outstanding compliments to the chef best musili I’ve ever had and the tomahawk steak was cooked to perfection wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

Everything was excellent would certainly recommend it and I also returned on my return home.

Stayed 2 nights for short break, great welcome, breakfast was excellent and the hotel overall was extremely clean, nothing seemed too much trouble. We stayed in room 9 at the back of the older original building, the room like the rest of the hotel was extremely clean however, it was very dated and could do with a touch of modernisation, we will certainly be staying here again next time we visit Brixham

This is an absolute bargain - without in any way belonging in the bargain basement! A brilliant location with harbour and town centre on your doorstep - not sure how it is if you have to park your car etc. A quirky, historic house with some signs of wear but very clean, restful and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent breakfast, perfectly cooked to order, and a real pleasure to linger over. Grateful to hosts Mark and Adele for my overnight stay in Brixham. Would definitely use it again and definitely recommend it to discerning friends 😎

Great stay

My son and his girlfriend booked the Smugglers Haunt for my 70th birthday on our weekend away in South Devon. The location was close to the short stay car park  and was literally a stone’s throw from the harbour and town. The location could not have been better.We were made to feel really welcome from the outset by the owner, at what was a particularly bad weekend for the town of Brixham with the issues surrounding the water supply. We were provided with bottled water for drinking purposes etc The owners explained that they had experienced a number of cancellations because of the ongoing issues with the local water supply. We felt it was important to support the Smugglers Haunt and did not regret the decision to come down to stay at the hotel. The breakfasts were outstanding and set you up for the day. We were kept posted by the owners about developments surrounding the water supply which was greatly appreciated. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Smugglers HauntHotel and have recommended it to friends and family alike.We would have no hesitation in staying at the Smugglers Haunt Hotel again on our next visit to South Devon .Diolch yn fawr Wynne and Carol Jones

Brixham bliss

Very Good basic hotel and great location. Situated right by the harbour so excellent location. The hotel is basic but nice and clean. The rooms had tea and coffee making, clean towels, a fridge, tv , shower gell and soap. The room was clean and perfectly fine. The breakfast was very good. With good choice of cooked, eggs benedict, toast, cereals, yogurts, juices, tea and coffee. The owner is friendly. The only minus no onsite parking. There is a short stay carpark near and a long stay further away. I enjoyed my stay here.

Very Good basic hotel and great location

Nice clean hotel with good food and excellent location. The owners are friendly and upon arrival I was led to my room on the 2nd floor above the breakfast room. The single room was clean and spacious. With TV, tea and coffee, shower and bath, digital alarm clock which came in handy for a wake up call for breakfast after a heavy night in Brixham for the annual King William the 3rds landing commeration Parare. The only issue with my stay was the shower in my room had a low window right next to the shower. So when showering it seaped down the wall under the bath and apparently into the breakfast room. When I went down for breakfast I was told by the owner what had happened so it was bit embarrassing as it had leaked onto someone who was having their breakfast. I feel the window in the shower should be sealed up to stop this happening in future. As the shower curtain was used as it should be so wasn't my fault.  Other then this I enjoyed my stay. The breakfast was very good and plenty of choice. No parking here at this hotel, so those with a car would have to find somewhere else to park. 

Nice clean hotel with good food and excellent location 

We’ve been staying at the Smugglers regularly since Chris and Russell ran it, and that’s got to be be nigh on 30 years ago.
There have been substantial changes over the years. 
Gone are the oak beams and pirates scenario and in has come the stripped pine and pastel shades.
There is still a nice family feel to the place and it’s still not expensive. (Mainly due to the inability to offer car parking) 
Rooms clean and bright. Staff clean and bright.
Staff also knowledgeable and attentive.
Menu pretty much as you’d expect for a hotel of this calibre - so basic grub with good portions and served promptly.
It’s small but it’s still got bags of character. One of Brixham’s hidden gems.

Kept its charm.

I had a one night stopover and obtained a good price for bed and breakfast. Check in was was quick and friendly. 
I was recommended a great local pub by the owner.
The room whilst small was clean & comfortable. Breakfast was first class & was freshly cooked. The place had character which sets it apart from the chain hotels which many use.
I would recommend the hotel & would use it if I am in the area.

Excellent Stay

The hotel is a lot larger than it appears from the front, full of character with winding little corridors and staircases. The decor is original, quirky and very nice. Our room was spotless, as was everywhere else in the hotel, and the service was excellent. We were made very welcome and very comfortable. Breakfast was amazing! Thank you for a lovely weekend.

A really lovely hotel!

Just returned from a relaxing 2 day stay here.  Welcome excellent, room superb, clean and spacious, with toiletries, tea, coffee biscuits, little fridge if you wanted to use, and they supplied the wine glasses, very nice touch.  We had lovely 2 seater couch in our room too, absolute bonus for chilling out after a days walking.  Must agree with other reviewers,  Smugglers is a treat, beautifully clean and tidy and lovely decor around and about.  Breakfast was one of the best in a b and b that i have had.  Friendly staff, beautifully presented and plenty of it.  juice, toast, cereals, and cooked with generous coffee pot .  Cant rate it highly enough.  Bit of a tip about parking, you can buy a permit in advance from Torbay Council, online we had a 3 day one , was perfect  but you must use it in the long term car parks of which there are a few in town.    Nearest one is down by the harbour and you literally walk through by the harbour to the hotel.  Literally 10 mins, 15 maximum.  Was busy and would recommend booking a restaurant if you like the look of it.   Thanks to Mark and the team, very enjoyable stay.  Hope to return,
