The Balkan Lodge Oxford

Great value for money on a busy weekend in Oxford. The room was small, but warm and had all we needed. The bed was comfortable. Only small complaint was the shower stall was small and the water pressure was weak.Front desk staff was helpful and polite.

All good and comfortable. Plus private carpark.

I stayed for two nights as I was visiting friends in Oxford.  Fantastic location away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre but with easy access straight down the Iffley Road into town.  10 min cab ride, 15 - 20 minutes on the bus (there are stops all along the main road or a 30-40 minute stroll.  You can also pick up the river for a walk if you head on down the Donnington Road just opposite.  There is a car park at the rear and despite being on a busy main road, I didn't notice it! They have a guest lounge next to reception and all of the rooms are upstairs.

The owners are lovely and very accommodating.  The hotel is clean and well kept and the double room was perfect for my visit.  Mattresses are comfortable (I usually find them too hard), tea and coffee facilities with complimentary biscuits, wardrobe, bedside table and lamps, dressing table with chair and an extra chair I could leave my case on.  I had an ensuite shower room with an abundance of towels that did exactly what I needed it to do. Traditional key locked doors which give it a homely feel and I felt safe and comfortable here. If I'm back in Oxford, I'd have no hesitation staying again.

Small room, but well-appointed, clean, with friendly staff. Just a block from the bus to city centre.

Really enjoyed staying here!!  Lovely welcome, lovely room and will definitely stay again when visiting my grandaughter in Oxford. Couldn't fault 😃
An easy stroll into the centre, about 20 minutes. Only wished it could have been a longer stay.

The room and bathroom were spacious and comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again!

Clean, comfortable and welcoming hotel just outside of the City Centre!

I had a night's stay at the Balkan Lodge Hotel in early December. I booked a single room and was using it as a short stopover on my way to Swindon. I'd never visited Oxford before so it was an opportunity to have a look around the city. The first thing that attracted me to the Balkan Lodge was the free parking. And there is a car park at the rear of the property with room for about 8 cars. It's a large building and after parking I went through to the reception and checked in with the very helpful host John. My room was upstairs and whilst not the biggest was okay. Clean and tidy, plenty of tea bags, coffee, a kettle that worked and a decent little t.v. The bathroom was small but usable and the room was warm. A minor demerit the hotel no longer do breakfast so for the £80 I paid I felt it was ten pounds too much. I was aware of this before I booked so no major issue really. There is a cafe just up the road, 'Sylvie' and I used that for breakfast the next morning although it was pricey. It's part of another guest house I believe. The other thing to be aware of with the Balkan Lodge is that it's a fairly long walk to Oxford centre and all the major attractions. Over a mile I'd say. I'm sure a taxi would be possible though. Overall I had a decent stay at the hotel and would be happy to use it again. 

A night in Oxford. 

The single room I had at the Balkan Lodge Hotel was one of the prettiest I have stayed in during my month long travels through England. Although not in the city centre, it was close to a bus route with frequent buses. The city centre was only about 10 minutes away.  The hotel itself was quiet and the staff friendly and very helpful.

Pretty Room Quiet Hotel

This is what a hotel should be like which attracts repeat business. Immaculately clean, excellent decor, good wifi, warm welcome from owner who cares about customers. A significantly better experience than my hotel the night before in Shrewsbury, which i have slated accordingly because there was nothing good about that terrible experience.

We're just back from a lovely weekend at The Balkan Lodge Hotel. The whole place is very clean and tidy and the host was very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We had a great breakfast each morning and there was plenty to choose from. We would certainly stay there again and recommend it to anyone staying in Oxford.

Lovely Weekend

We stayed at The Balkan Lodge with friends as we were out in Oxford for the night. The hotel was lovely! Clean, bright rooms with good amenities. Our stay was made extra special by the hospitality of the owner, he was very attentive and friendly and kept the bar open late for us at short notice, which was much appreciated.
I would thoroughly recommend this hotel if you are staying in Oxford!

Great place to stay in Oxford

We enjoyed a night here last week and thoroughly loved it. 
The man on the front desk (I think he was called John) was lovely. When we arrived, he let us check in early as the room was free, which was an added bonus. We had just wanted to park the car (free parking!) so we could make the most of the day, which on speaking to him earlier in the month he said would be absolutely fine. He then gave us directions to the Thames Path so we could enjoy a more beautiful walk into Oxford, which was a nice touch.
The hotel was really quiet. We stayed in the four poster room, which was really pretty, well-equipped and clean. The bathroom is a little tired but the jacuzzi bath more than makes up for this!
The breakfast was incredible, too. 
This will definitely be the place we stay whenever we come to Oxford now. 
The hotel itself is great and the location is fantastic - a short walk into town and you’re away from all the hustle and bustle at bedtime. It’s perfect!

Highly recommend 

Good all round - decent location, reasonable walking distance to city centre, fair sized car park, clean and fresh feel throughout hotel, friendly and with very good cooked breakfasts to set you up for the day :)Only slight gripe was the sink in our room not draining properly but that didn't stop it from being a very pleasant stay.

Warm welcome. Room on first floor comfortable but bed squeaked and pillows were not very soft. Hairdryer and toiletries provided were welcomed. Breakfast good with selection of cooked meals. Scrambled eggs on toast with mushrooms and tomatoes and beans was delicious. Good variety of teas. Parking easy. Easy access to buildings and room.

Good place to stay

Great place for location a 5 min bus ride into Oxford. Great welcome from John a man of information. Cleanliness excellent. Decor good well kept. Breakfast top score.Room was adequate size and comfortable...... however it had no window bad choice for our hot summer.... we did have a fan And survived. Would definitely return but would choose a different room.
