If you want the authentic Bath experience stay at this cottage.  It is so well decorated with real items to bring you back to the times.  It has a beautiful green space in the backyard which you can access from the kitchen / dinning room area or from the living room area.  TVs in all the rooms, each room has its own bathroom.  Its a house from the 1750s and it was my favourite stay in all of England.  

The location of the cottage is perfect, with a bus stop right outside.  

oh and of course, the host Carole is absolutely amazing. She recommended a walking tour through bath that was free.  It really helped us understand the city and get acquainted with the cute small town.

8 of us have just come back from a 2 nights stay at this cottage I've gotta be honest I was a bit unsure of the place when we parked outside but once we got in we just loved it. Lovely little cottage lovely rooms bit low ceilings dunno how many times I hit my head but that's just me not used to low ceilings.Great bus service into the town the bus stop was right outside cottage. We had a lovely time relaxing really enjoyed x

We visited the cottage in june and were pleased. Value for money. Interesting and comfortable. The kitchen is the main social area. Plenty of room and well equpped for the cook in your group. Private back garden and restful area. Many areas to 'get your own space'. Collections of interesting objects. Owner was responsive and clear in communication

There is no doubting the hospitality of the owner of this well situated house. The layout is different but interesting and the location to Bath with the bus stop directly outside is so convenient. The downside is the cleanliness, it needs a good clean!

Four adult ladies including myself hired Brunswick Cottage for a long weekend in Bath. The cottage is beautifully located, really handy for the city centre (there's a bus stop right outside, the number 2 is every 30 minutes at 16 and 46 minutes past the hour). There is one parking space off road, and free on street parking. Price wise it is quite frankly unbelievably reasonable, and I don't think you will find something else this reasonable, this convenient and this pleasant so close to Bath.

That said, I can see that this cottage wouldn't suit everyone. It is very full of very interesting art work and objects, many of which I really admired, but others which, frankly, got in the way. An example is the wreath in the hall, which prevented me from finding the light switch for the first day. As other reviews have mentioned, there are a large number of dressmakers dummies showcasing vintage clothes and fabrics; they're lovely - but I really must question the wisdom of putting one in a bathroom.

The cottage itself is beautiful, we enjoyed sitting in the conservatory after a long day's shopping, and the garden is also lovely, with lots of lovely perennials which will be stunning in full summer. The kitchen is extremely well stocked, but possibly even over stocked - we found three cafetières but only one was functioning. Sadly some guests had not put crockery and cutlery back clean which was a real shame. However the owner had very kindly left us a loaf, milk and other essentials which we were very grateful for, and little touches like this make all the difference.

All in all, I will definitely be returning to Brunswick Cottage; I hope next time I don't lose the coin toss and have the bunk beds again. They're not so much fun when you're 35....

Amazingly Decorated Cottage!!

Girls weekend!

The positives first - The cottage is situated in a quiet area with a bus stop just outside the property which is only a 10 minute bus ride right into the centre of Bath.
The cottage also has a nice garden to sit out in if the weather is nice.

Now for the negatives - Carole the host assured us the property would be COVID clean and all the surfaces and handles would have special attention. She also assured us that the property would be empty for 2 to 3 days between each guest to be extra sure. With this knowledge my 5 friends and I felt confident going to this cottage. How foolish we were! On our day of arrival we parked up outside the cottage and as we were early we decided to catch the bus into the city. While waiting at the bus stop a Fiat 500 pulled into the parking space and a lady got out and went into the cottage. So much for the property being empty for 2 to 3 days prior to our visit! She was gone by the time we got back. The first thing we noticed were the cups were dirty and one was chipped. The kitchen windowsill hadn't been cleaned in ages.  It was covered in bit and had ring marks on it. We were only given one towel each and one of them had a stain on it. Yuk! The upstairs bedroom had a lipstick stain on the duvet cover. In my bedroom the metal shower storage rack for shampoo etc was extremely rusty. One of the toilets, the lid wouldn't stay up so as soon as you sat the lid hit you in the back. No pillow case protectors on the pillows and on one of the bunk beds one of the pillows didn't have a pillow case at all. In one of the bedrooms there was a pair of men's socks behind the radiator. This showed that the place hadn't been cleaned properly. The rug in the conservatory didn't look like it had seen a vacuum cleaner in ages. The welcome book was so grimy so we didn't touch it. The arms on the settees were thred bare with great big holes in them which were covered in pillow cases. In my bedroom there was a knob missing off of the bed side draws and as I got out of bed I caught my foot on the screw that was still sticking out causing me pain and my foot to bleed. When I text Carole she said it happened with the previous people and she was getting the maintenance man to fix it. Well as she supposedly hadn't had anyone in the property for 2/3 day she had had plenty of time to get it fixed. The least she could have done was remove the screw. The whole place was not clean enough especially in these current climates. Carole uses the excuse for her place being old so not being able to be perfectly clean. You expect the basics to be clean and unfortunately they weren't. My advice to anyone thinking of going here would be DONT. There are far nicer places in Bath to stay where standards of cleanliness are a priority. Avoid Brunswick cottage at all costs especially with this pandemic. It's better to be safe than sorry!!!

Carole should be banned from hosting - very unclean and has safety issues!

Me and my friends have been shocked by our treatment by the host, to the extent I feel I must voice my concerns about the un-professional behaviour towards paying customers. We had a pleasant stay at the cottage and a lovely weekend in Bath celebrating our friends big birthday. However, the memory I will take away from the weekend will be the unpleasant and unprofessional behaviour from the host.

Following our stay we have essentially been penalised for making use of the property we paid to stay in. The host is extremely particular about managing her guests stays and therefore there are an excessive amount of unreasonable rules. For example, the expectation that only 8 people would create one bag of rubbish and that most of the cleaning should have been completed by us - despite paying a cleaning fee.   We have been told by the host that we left the house in an unacceptable state and extra cleaning was needed - the truth is we left it in a better state than we found it and I truly wish that I had taken pictures as evidence. In private communication the host has been rude and un-professional at every turn. I am a seasoned traveler who has never had any issues and this has left me fearful that I could have a similar experience in the future.

Extremely Disappointing Stay

I recently stayed at this property with a group of friends and we unfortunately had a really disappointing and upsetting experience. The property was very dirty, requiring us to wash up before we could use any items. The stairs are also a health and safety hazard, with one of my friends hurting her ankle as a result of falling on an uneven step. There was also no hot water, and the toilets were incredibly old and difficult to use. Despite this we broadly accepted it is an old and quirky property, and weren’t expecting 5 star luxury, so these things, whilst disappointing, are not the reason for my low rating. 

Shortly following our stay the host got in touch to complain that the property was not clean. Specifically she raised issue with the fact we had used the oven, and that we had created multiple bags of rubbish - both incredibly normal things to do when staying at a property. She became abusive and aggressive, to the point that the platform through which we booked the property has had to block her from contacting us again. One example of this is that, following her fall on the unsafe stairs, my friend was elevating her foot on a spare chair in the kitchen to control the swelling. After we left the host contacted us accusing us of having extra people to stay because there were 9 chairs in the kitchen rather than 8. This kind of controlling behaviour is completely unnecessary and this woman should not rent out her property with this kind of attitude. 

We have a live complaint out at the moment following our experience and her fitness to host in the future is being considered. But until she has been removed I fear other poor, unsuspecting people could fall victim to her aggressive and abusive approach. I therefore feel compelled to urge anyone considering a stay in bath to stay away from this property at all costs. Please, please, please don’t make the same mistake we did and stay here as you put yourself at risk of a very upsetting experience. This host should be banned.
