The Thief

The room was neat and spacious. I booked the loft room on the room but there was an issue the next morning with hot water. The tank was not filled up enough for two people! 
We slept well, there was no noise from outside. Apart the water issue everything was fine. The breakfast was okay but we had to rush because the place closed from 11.00 am to 12.00 pm.

We stayed in the ground floor room off the courtyard. The room was large clean and was everything we needed. Good location within walking distance of main attractions. 
No parking but large public car park just minutes away.
Just what we needed for the night and reasonably priced for Bath.

One night at the Thief

Overnight stay in Bath

I have really mixed feelings about The Thief.  It's on a busy street, with traffic noise from 5 am to midnight if you're in one of the rooms above the street. The stairway and halls leading to the rooms are in much need of a re-do -- black paint on the walls (very Goth; ugh), and a thread-bare industrial grey carpet.  Our room and bath, however, were recently redone, which was a saving grace to the booking.  The manager, Ed, was laconic at best, yet his brother, Tom, was friendly and engaging.  Although convenient to the main area of Bath, I would not stay at The Thief again.

Cons: rude bar manager, no parking, had to ask for toilet paper, bath wash empty, poor television reception, dirty, did I say rude bar manager?, cost
Apparently it makes little difference to mention how unwelcome we felt coming to this hotel as I have since looked at old reviews with similar complaints. We would have overlooked some of the other cons if only we had felt welcome. A little friendliness goes a long way.

Cons outweighed the pros

I am thoroughly disappointed with my stay at the Thief - not at all what I was expecting. The fact that I was charged £66 pounds a night for my stay here is EXTORTIONATE, and the standards were entirely SUB PAR. 

On my first night the ceiling in my bathroom started leaking profusely, so much so that I called the emergency number to report it. I was moved to another room for the second night, where I had no hot water - intermittent lukewarm water at best.

I reported both of these incidents and was told I could get a complimentary breakfast and a refund of half the price of my stay. Whilst I did get the breakfast, it has been nearly a week, and I have had NO SIGHT of the refund.

If you are considering staying here, DO NOT. Needless to say, my bank holiday weekend was categorically ruined.
