We had a lovely stay. Beautiful old church. Rooms really comfortable and well equipped, thoughtful extras provided, beds even more comfortable! Slept very well. Kevin and Helen are very welcoming. Breakfast was fantastic. Freshly cooked and home made pastries. Thank-you, we would love to return!

The owners Helen and Kevin are amazing people and took a lot of time to chat and answer questions. The Auld Kirk was the best part of our Holiday. The rooms are large and well furnished. The bathrooms are completely updated and luxurious. The included breakfast was easily worth 30 pounds per person. We can’t recommend more.

Wow wow wow. We have stayed in 10+ places on our trip and the Auld Kirk was easily the best. Wonderful hospitality from Kevin and Helen, very unique building with tons of charm and character, great food and very modern conveniences (bathroom/shower, coffee etc). If you’re even thinking about it just book this place.

Thank you Helen and Kevin for your hospitality. It was a joy to stay at your B & B. Nice touch to have a few complimentary drams in our room. Everything was clean and tidy. The breakfast was excellent, even including delicious home made scones. Highly recommended.

Arrival time is between 4 and 7. Helen welcomed us, explained clearly the facilities and the best places for an evening meal nearby. Room was very well appointed and a home cooked breakfast was delicious. Slightly more expensive than other places on our tour but well worth the difference

NB! This is a booking for a cancelled reservation which may seem odd. We arrived at the property in the afternoon  with the "Red alert" of Storm Babet expected the next day. Helen was concerned we could be forced to stay for longer than intended because of flooding and road closures and that we would have little to do while we were there. After a brief discussion, she and Kev agreed that the three night reservation could be cancelled at no cost to us. They dealt with the relevant arrangements with the booking agency and the refund occurred without any problem. 

We were very impressed with the attitude of the hosts as it would have been easier and obviously more financially advantageous to them to proceed with our booking. However they were genuinely concerned about our welfare and the inconvenience and disruption we would have experienced had we stayed during the storm. 

Full marks to both Kev and Helen for the kindness they showed in dealing with this difficult situation.

We have just stayed at this beautiful property.  From the word go it was perfect.  On checking in Helen took us through to a beautiful sitting room where she gave us the rundown on the property.  She was super friendly, honest and we loved her no nonsense approach.  The bed was super comfortable and everything was spotlessly clean.  Breakfast was amazing, everything was made to order, not buffet style.  The town of Ballater itself is gorgeous with many cafes and specialty stores.  Thank you Helen and Kevin for making our stay so memorable.

We had a wonderful stay at the Auld Kirk. Everything was first class from the time we walked in until we left- our welcome, highlights and dinner tip, our room and amenities. The breakfast was the best we’ve had in five weeks across Ireland and Scotland. 
We had planned to see some aspects but we were taken to a whole new level by Helen and Kevin. Have to say the scotch and shortbread on arrival was a nice touch. Thank you. We’ll be back!

We stopped by The Auld Kirk on our way from Inverness to Perth and did enjoy our stay a lot.

The whole building is clean and well furnished with love for details. The beds are comfortable and the nights quiet. Breakfast is being served rich and tasty. They won a price for the most unique B&B twice and we think it is well deserved as it is really an unique experience and worth every penny.

You should definitively talk to the owners on arrival who will give you good insider information on local attractions. Only this way we were able to picnic with three stags (one of which was a fourteen-ender!) just 15m away.

Oh, and make sure you enjoy your complimentary welcome gift to get a taste of localness :)

This is a great British B & B with a great welcome from the hosts Helen and Kevin and briefing on anything and everything the locality has to offer, which is a lot. The rooms are all you need and attention to detail provides a couple of welcome shots of whiskey in the room. Very comfortable and has a shared lounge which is very comfortable and has a limited hours bar. Breakfast was one of the best with home baked items like the fantastic blueberry scones. All things yummy and served with great aplomb by Lisa, who also had great, suggestions on places to go, like Stonehaven and the Loch Muick, which was just fantastic in sunshine.
Totally recommend and will be back as soon as a long journey allows….top notch!

Sets a standard….

We had the most fantastic stay in the Auld Kirk in Ballater. The owners, Helen and Kev, have made this special building into a delightful, cosy and spotlessly clean place to stay. Helen and Kev were both extremely thoughtful and put huge effort into accommodating whatever we needed. From the tastiest homebaked, vegan breakfast blueberry scones to the offer of drying wet walking clothes, this was a B&B experience that's unlikely to be beaten. We will be back! Gemma and Chris

One fabulous B&B

The Auld Kirk well deserves the excellent reviews it has received. We booked on the basis of them and suffice to say it did not disappoint. Great welcome from Kevin; fab room and bathroom ; wee nip of whisky and home made shortbread in the room. Add that to immaculately clean accommodation; a fantastic breakfast and super friendly & helpful staff - what’s not to love!  The converted church was fab and we look forward to returning. Thank you Kevin & Helen.
