Family of 3 stayed in a large room with a queen bed and single bed, lounge and plenty of room and storage. Steve and Beth were so welcoming and informative about the area. Beth gave us a run down of Dundee and we loved visiting it on our way back to Edinburgh. Steve booked dinner at the local pub and the food was fantastic. We stayed in ballater as it was close to balmoral castle and honestly wished we had stayed 2-3 nights, not 1. Parking was available right outside the BNB. Breakfast was delicious and my daughter loved the eggy soldiers! Thanks for a lovely stay and we hope to return!

Wonderful!  Highly recommend staying there.  The hosts, Steve and Beth, are exceptional, very friendly and helpful.  Room was lovely.  Beautifully decorated, very comfortable.  Breakfast menu lots of choice with generous portions and delicious. Great location.

Our hosts were very helpful and knowledgeable, making excellent breakfasts to order and even doing a load of laundry for us. We stayed in Room 1, which was spacious and quiet. The bed was very comfortable and the town is a great place to visit, with lots of good restaurants and great walking trails. Perfect hiking weather when we visited the first week of April, sunny and cool.

Lovely guesthouse. Close to the centre. Breakfast was great. The room was on the 2nd floor and was spotlessly clean and warm. There was a great view from the window. A great selection of board games is available if the weather isn't being kind. We would definitely stay there again. 

Beth and Steve are very warm and welcoming hosts. They helped us with useful information on the area and insights that only come from being locals. 
The Guest house is in the perfect location for exploring Ballater and for visiting Balmoral Castle and surrounds. 
Our room had amazing views of the mountains and the township.
The breakfast was all that we could desire, with variations for different tastes.

What a great B and B! The owners are so passionate about their establishment and very welcoming and engaging. Lovely spacious rooms and great breakfast. There is no parking on site but there is a free public car park just outside. It is ideally located in the centre of town. Ballater is such a charming town. Highly recommend for a place to stay.

Beth and Steve were amazing hosts. They certainly know how to run an efficient, welcoming and clean guesthouse. Perfect location, and exceptional breakfast (would strongly recommend the porridge). Room and bathroom (family/triple room) was spacious and well appointed. We were even greeted by Steve on arrival with a home made piece of lemon cake. Our only regret is that we didn’t stay more nights at this perfect guesthouse and more time in Ballater itself as it’s a lovely town.
Would recommend the Alexandra Hotel for an affordable pub meal and the Old Bridge Cafe for lunch. And of course a visit to Balmoral Castle only 12 mins drive from Ballater.

Breakfast is a veritable feast with a huge choice.Beth even made me a ‘morning roll’ just like my granny used to make.
We were on a whistle stop tour ofScotland with some Australian cousins so only stayed one night. We will however be back again when we are able to stay longer.

We stayed here for 2 nights, and, honestly  the hosts Beth and Steven could not do enough to make sure our visit was enjoyable. Nothing was too much trouble. The breakfasts were amazing, and start early if you want to be out and about to make the most of the day. I would highly recommend, and have done so to friends and family in the area. I would give 6 stars if I could.

Ideal Place to Stay in Ballater

Wonderful stay

I would give 6 stars if I could!

Everything about the Gordon Guest house was wonderful!  The room was large with great views.  We didn't meet Steve but Beth was very friendly and helpful, fun to chat with.  The breakfast was delicious and filling for a long day of hiking. They have a closet for drying boots and socks which we were very thankful for after our hike to Burn o' Vat.  We would definitely stay here again and wish we'd had time for at least another night here.  We highly recommend it!

We arrived at Gordon Guest House in Ballater after a long and frustrating drive (thanks to our sat nav acting up), on the evening of the Sunday when Queen Elizabeth's funeral cortege was moved from nearby Balmoral to Edinburgh.  

Steve greeted us warmly and got us all set up in our cozy room - the king size bed was a real luxury, as was the extra sitting space, tea/coffee service, and the spotless bathroom with amenities.  Steve even gave us pieces of cake his mother had baked!

Given that Ballater had been buried in media and royalty-related movements, swamped with police, and inundated with visitors to Balmoral, we were doubly impressed with how peaceful and quiet our digs were that rainy Sunday night when we arrived.  In the morning, we took the shuttle bus out to Balmoral to pay our own respects.

 This was also one of the few places on our trip where we found a place to eat without having to make reservations - Scotland travelers, plan ahead for dinner.

Not only is Gordon Guest house fantastic - but so is Ballater.  It's a picture-perfect little village in the midst of some truly remarkable natural beauty.
