We are a family traveler with a child. The place is great for a family. It's located in a quiet neighborhood with great English breakfast. We really love the place and definitely would like to go back again.


Mandalay Guest House is so charming!  Though the front of the house is nothing spectacular, the back is the real hidden treasure!  What a garden!  The owners certainly have a green thumb!  The breakfast room is bright and sunny with views overlooking the lovely garden.  The hosts were accommodating and polite and had such interesting stories to tell of their past lives working as chefs in Los Angeles and NYC.  The house is extremely close to Stonehenge (just down the road) and also within walking distance of the town of Amesbury where we had dinner one night.  The rooms are charming and clean.  All in all, a perfectly lovely stay in the English countryside for this Yank.  :)

My wife and I stayed at Mandalay Guest House for one night on a recent trip to the UK.  We would have loved to stay there longer, but as we were site-seeing in various locations west of London we could only stay in Amesbury one evening.  The home is beautiful, with a lovely backyard that we enjoyed gazing upon at breakfast.  We had the Bronte room, which was charming and comfortable.  Breakfast was delicious and service was excellent.  The owners know the true meaning of hospitality.  They also suggested dinner at an Italian restaurant just a moderate walk into town, and that recommendation did not disappoint (I had the lamb roast so you can also find English classical dishes in addition to traditional Italian fare).  We visited on a Sunday evening in a non-peak season and received an excellent rate, but even if I had paid more the stay at Mandalay Guest House would have been well worth it!

Rooms were great, beds were comfortable, breakfasts were very good and the owners helped get us out of a bind at their own inconvenience. The guest house is well presented and well looked after. Highly recommended. The town is a stone's throw away and has some great places to eat.

The picture is the back of the house toward the garden...that made finding the place a little tricky; but we made it.  This Guest House is on the grounds of an old abbey in a very quaint town only a few miles from Stonehenge.  The garden in the back of the house is absolutely gorgeous and not to be missed.  Get up a little early and walk in the garden before breakfast.  The breakfast is scrumptious, and like many in UK guest houses too much to eat on a regular basis.  The fresh fruit was wonderful.  The owner was very cordial and helpful about where to eat and what to see.  The Church nearby is said to contain the remains of Elizabeth of Provence, the only English Queen without a headstone on her grave...because it is not clear where it is.  The room and bath were small but manageable.
