We returned to the Amboseli after several years, mainly because we usually book last minute and this lovely b&b is always fully booked.  This is unsurprising as Gwen and Reg are perfect hosts - very friendly and nothing is too much trouble.  The rooms are immaculately clean, the breakfasts are great, the location is very central and overlooks the park.  Anything I have missed?  I don’t think so.

Gwen and Reg were amazing, very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Room was nice, larger than expected and spotlessly clean. We enjoyed lovely breakfast every morning and a great company too. Thumbs up, hope to see you again guys. 

My husband and I have just had a 4 night stay and Reg and Gwen were great hosts. The guest house is spotless and perfectly positioned. The breakfast was exceptional. They have a lovely back garden which we didn't have the pleasure of as it wasn't quite warm enough but it was beautifully tended. We had a parking space for our visit too. Thank you for a very enjoyable visit.

Gwen and Reg were absolutely delightful as hosts, welcomed us with with a lovely tea. The rooms and guest house was immaculate and the breakfasts were full of flavour. They were such lovely people and always provided us with lots of information and help on where to eat or how to plan our days. Would highly recommend and love to visit again non our next trip to The Lakes.


Stayed from 23rd Aug for 3 nights, we stayed in the Loughrigg Room on the front with king-size bed, I would say it's the cleanest I've ever seen a B&B and the owners should be proud of that!! Kettle in room with enough tea and coffee, milk ect to keep you going... Clean bathroom and lovely soft lovely smelling towels. Breakfast lovely with locally sourced ingredients too. Secure car park at the back... This place I would recommend. Thankyou Reg & Gwen. X

Cannot believe we have been coming to Amboseli Lodge now for eleven years. As usual, everything was immaculate and the welcome from Reg & Gwen was as friendly and warm-hearted as always. Amazing breakfast and we felt very safe with the sensible COVID procedures in place.

This was our first trip to The Lakes this year and although it was pouring with rain when we arrived on the Saturday, we were then blessed with two perfect days of dramatic clouds and blue skies. Thank you again Reg for telling us about the superb little detour to finish off a perfect days walking on the Monday.

Booked 3 nights at Amboseli, changed a booking to this guest house due to the superb reviews. We were not disappointed. Gwen & Reg were the perfect hosts, always ready for a quick chat or available for any help or suggestions, lovely friendly couple. I had contacted them prior to our arrival, mentioning we were up for a birthday treat. Had a lovely surprise on the morning of my birthday, balloon attached to the door, card shoved under it and tasty chocolate as a gift! It is the lovely little touches that make the experience worthwhile and result in wanting to do a review as well as make a return visit.
Room was lovely, lots of space, tea/coffee/hot chocolate, nice toiletries in the bathroom, lovely fluffy towels and of course, very clean.
Breakfast was great, tea/coffee, cereal, fruit & juices plus yoghurts to help yourself whilst awaiting your cooked breakfast of choice. You have a breakfast menu to fill in the night before. I believe some people are not too keen on this but never bothered us and Gwen being so accommodating, explained that if we wanted to change anything, just let her know as soon as we were down at the allotted time.
Reg has done some pamphlets on local walks. We are not seasoned walkers but did try 2 of his suggestions, 1 being the waterfalls walk. Stunning scenery and not too taxing for us novices, well worth the effort!
All in all, a fabulous stay, just wish we were still in beautiful Ambleside. Definitely returning and Amboseli will be our choice. 
One last thing, always better to book direct with Amboseli, obviously same price as the compare sites!

Stayed at Amboseli Lodge once again for a weekend trip to Ambleside and once again we were not disappointed. Lovely hospitality from Reg and Gwen with an excellent breakfast as well. 
Room was spotless and we felt perfectly safe in this current Covid 19 pandemic due to the measures they’d taken.
A wonderful location with Ambleside on your doorstep. 
We’ll be back! 


I have said it many times before - this is simply our favourite guest house in the region. 

Gwen and Reg are consummate professionals; kind welcoming and thoughtful hosts, who go out of their way to ensure your stay is comfortable. 

Facilities are excellent, bedrooms and bathrooms are spotlessly clean and I do mean SPOTLESS! Breakfast is quite superb and only locally sourced,  quality produce served. If only it was calorie free!

I wish I could say something negative. I wish that I could write a poor review....anything to keep guests to a minimum....anything to keep this gem to myself. However I can’t...if you want the best stay with Gwen and Reg. 

We Will be back soon. Thank you both for a fantastic stay.

Amboseli Lodge is just wonderful, comfortable, clean and furnished to a high standard. The breakfast is excellent and Reg and Gwen are the perfect hosts. They have a vast knowledge of the local area and can’t help enough, Reg supplying information on local walks and Gwen keeping us amused with her anecdotes. In these strange times my partner and I were a little apprehensive but we needn’t have worried, we felt both safe and relaxed. On departure day we felt that we had known Reg and Gwen for years not three days. It was our first visit, hopefully it won’t be our last.

5 Star Accommodation

We stayed at the Amboseli Lodge for 3 nights from the 18th August and had the Loughrigg room.  From the point of arriving to the point of leaving, this place felt like home.  Gwen and Reg go out of there way to ensure you have a pleasant stay and that we did.

Amboseli Lodge itself is the perfect base for staying in Ambleside. A few minutes walk to all shops, pubs, restaurants. Excellent starting point for some of the local walks of Loughrigg and Wansfell (which by the way Reg was our Guru for directions and recommendations, thanks Reg).

This was the first time we had ventured out anywhere post lockdown so we was a little nervous but Amboseli Lodge has everything laid out perfectly to ensure safety is top priority. Our room was spacious, well equipped, very comfortable bed and immaculately clean. Breakfast was by far the best we have ever had. There was plenty of choice, extremely tasty and because of dietary intolerances, Gwen even went out of her way to get us something that wasn’t on the breakfast menu.

Thank you Gwen and Reg for the most wonderful stay, we will definitely be returning.
