The menu at BanTalouan Resort Restaurant contains many classic Thai dishes. But the chef takes Thai ingredients and culinary concepts to create her own Thai inspired dishes that you will find nowhere else. These are the dishes that make Ban Talouan special. Most noteworthy is deep fried pomfret fish which comes smothered in the chef's own sweet, sour and spicy sauce, which is the perfect complement to the delicate flesh of the fish. Another is deep fried chicken wings. You will find this dish at almost any Thai restaurant, but at BanTalouan it comes covered in crispy lemon grass, that has been very finely julienned and deep fried with the chicken wings. Again it is a unique taste sensation. A third was country-style chicken soup with mushrooms. The soup had been soured with a salek-like fruit that grows on local palm trees ... again creative and unique. So to cut a long story short, if you are in Rayong and want to stretch your Thai culinary experiences, head to Ban Talouan. With some other dishes, three bottles of beer and water, five of us ate dinner for a very moderate 1,290 baht. PS: We were given a complementary basket of season fruit to start with.
