Fantastic
4 reviewsWhen my friends told me we were going to spend the night at "a homestay near Amphawa" this American tourist resolved, with some trepidation, to endure bugs, lack of a/c, Turkish toilets, and a morning "shower" in the river. I was very pleasantly surprised to find nothing of the kind at Phor Kub Mae Homestay! The Phor Kub Mae Homestay is located amid the peaceful rural scenery of a working coconut farm, just a 15-minute drive from the bustling Damnoen Saduak floating market. My room was super-clean and neat as a pin, including the private Western-style bathroom. Complementary WiFi and cable TV were there for me if I wanted them, otherwise they were easily ignored, and the in-room A/C was adjustable from barely cool to nicely cold. Phor Kub Mae Homestay's #1 attraction: its gracious and accommodating hosts! Miss Jib and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chaturaphat, were always on hand to make sure we had the supplies, information, and recommendations we needed during our stay. Miss Jib taught us to make kanom krok (Thai coconut pudding) using her traditional cookware in the kitchen-house next to the main building, and she even provided us with some of the region's feather-light "farmer style" clothing that helps so much to mitigate the tropical heat. Breakfast is included, and for an additional amount we also arranged to have dinner provided on the deck outside our rooms, which turned out to be the smartest decision of our stay. During my time in Bangkok, Amphawa, and Pattaya I experienced delicious, diverse meals at people's homes, at restaurants both Thai and Western, and at markets, food courts, and street carts. Without exaggeration, the two home-cooked meals served to us by the Chaturaphat family were my favorite. Authentic Thai food at its best! The serene view of coconut grove treetops, pleasant walks along the canals, the retro decor of the downstairs office...all attractive features of our stay, but nothing compared to the two best aspects of Phor Kub Mae Homestay: our wonderful hosts and their home-cooked food! If you're looking for a great place to stay near Amphawa then look no further, you've found it! :D - Jim V. Boston Massachusetts, USA
