Mrusi house was in a good location, on a quiet street. It was conveniently located close to everything. The staff was helpful with every question, even walking me to some places I couldn't find. We enjoyed breakfast daily and would return again.

We spent one night in this hotel.
It was not expected but as we arrived one day earlier, we took a room there before joining the other hotel which was close but full.
The surprise was very good. 
Gray and his team are very nice and helpful. They arranged our shuttle transfer with a taxi at our arrival with a very nice person, Ali, who finally became our taxi during our whole stay in Zanzibar.
Rooms are simple and everything is working fine. The location is just one of the best in Stone Town.
It is the place where we had the larger bed of our stay in Zanzibar !

Good deal in Historic Stone Town

A very good surprise

The pictures you see online are far from what you see in person. I was disappointed initially but I was there at a time prices in Stone Town were hiked up and this was a convenient spot.

Will not deny, the breakfast was great everyday. The staff were friendly, but couldn't always understand what you were trying to say (even when I spoke in Swahili). Though, the manager then mentioned there's been a change of management and that it's only been 2 weeks since they took over - so perhaps they were still learning the curves.

The room was ok, the bathroom not so much - there were little ants everywhere and the water that came out of the toilet smelt really awful.

There was no water on the one day and was forced to shower with a bucket of cold water - I didn't get an apology nor any form of compensation and paid way more per day than deserved.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't stay there again.

Convinient, But Disappointing

We stayed here for one night. Then changed our hotel.

The staff is very friendly indeed, the restaurant and the breakfast are good. The whole hotel needs renovation though: Our room was filled with a penetrating stench of mould and the air blowing out the A/C was the same. Moreover, the A/C was broken and therefore, not cooling properly - it was very hot at night. Also, the mattress and the towels smelled of mould. All in all, a very uncomfortable experience for that price (76$/night in our case). 

We changed our hotel and found something way better for just 4 bucks more!

Btw, they don't accept card payment at Keki, even though one might have booked through booking.com 

Not recommended.

Probably the cheapest place in Stonetown to have a meal but service is non existent! 
Our first night in Stonetown, we decided to have dinner here as it was around the corner from our hotel. We seated ourselves as there was no one at reception. There were no other guests there but no one came to take our order. Eventually, someone's kid called someone to come over. While taking our order, the "waitress" was called to reception so she actually gave us her pen and notepad to write down our own orders!! Our meals arrived 30mins later (which seems to be the norm in Zanzibar). Turns out she cooks the food as well as takes the orders and plays hostess so no wonder she isn't all that friendly. Food was below average with no effort put in so you pretty much pay for what you get. Great if you are on a budget but nothing to write home about.

Cheap but not cheerful

Totally overpriced. They wanted 50$ for a single room. Payed 40$. But still way too much (wouldn't pay more than 15-20$ after staying one night there):
AC didn't work
Service is bad
Almost everything is broken
Breakfast is served very slowly
All thatis typical for Africa, I know. But normally you don't pay as muh either.

Go somewhere else!
