CHIENTAN Youth Hotel

This was the only affordable hotel that had a single room big enough to fit my family with 5 kids. It is right inside JianTan Park (which has a pond!) and very short walk from JianTan station. Room is comfortable and clean, provides shampoo, body wash, hand soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste, slippers, tissue, bottled water, glasses, thermos, and hand towels (bring bath towels or rent from them). Hot shower has very good pressure, but no bidet in toilets. There are 2 toilet cubicles, 1 shower cubicle, and 2 sinks in the room with 6 beds (which we got). Hall also has hot and cold water dispenser and a vending machine. Basement has coin-operated washing machines and tumble dryers. Lobby has ATM and convenience store. Check-in is strictly at 3 p.m. so we had lunch first at nearby cafe in front of the pond, which had very good food and excellent service. We left too early to get breakfast for last day, so they sent us food boxes to go instead (just give them a heads up). In hotel and cafe, a few staff speak very little English and the rest none at all. Make sure you download Traditional Chinese in your Google Translate app. Still, the staff is very helpful and nice. I left my phone in the laundry room on our second night and found it at the lobby the next morning. Breakfast is plentiful, especially if you come early. Note, this is largely a student facility, not the Hilton. The TV glitched and housekeeping had to bang it a few times to make it work. Our door had its front panel screwed on, a very neat but obvious repair. But it is clean, comfortable, convenient, roomy, and quiet, perfect for big family with small kids.
