Rooms are tight and small, so I wouldn't stay too long, but well situated.  Short walk from the bus depot  (down a hill, up a hill, down a hill) and then a short walk to the Forest Railway (up a hill, down a hill, up a hill).  Alishan Village itself is nothing to write home about, so in terms of nice, clean, and great front desk staff, this place worked for the short visit to Alishan.

Neat little place for a couple of nights

We stayed two nights during winter so the rates were lower and the mountain was relatively quieter.

I believe the hotel is family owned and run. The owner was very helpful in giving us maps and suggestions on things to do and see. We booked an early morning tour to see the unkai ( sea of clouds ) at sunrise. Our driver was the owner's son and he took us to some nice spots and to see a very old Cypress tree.

The room was basic but cozy. There was no heating but the bed had an electric blanket. There's a hot water dispenser in the lobby.

Breakfast was at a restaurant 5 minutes walk at the small town center. It's Taiwanese breakfast cuisine. Tasty and plentiful.

I would stay here again as I like the friendly vibe.

Basic Room but very friendly and helpful staff

Aside from the good location we experienced a horrible stay. When we entered the room we were encountered by several large insects. The bed was hard as a rock I could not sleep in it and woke up seemingly every 10 minutes during the night. We stayed there the weekend and it was extremely loud, since there was construction next to our room on the left side and on the back side. At night there was a loud generator running all night. Breakfast was not given in the hotel, but next to the train station and it was low quality and hygiene for Western standards. They did not clean our room and when we asked why they said we have not hung out a sign for it. Honestly? They have several rules and threaten you to pay a fine if the toilet is stuffed. We were charged an very high price, which we consider outragious for what we were offered. We would definitely recommend not staying there.

Good location and shuttle, rest horrible

Basic hotel, clean. 

We booked a 4 pax room. Room is spacious with 2 queen beds. No heater in the room nor bathroom. Freezing cold during our visit. Only heating blanket available.

Host are friend, nice and helpful.

Winter jacket is available for hire.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms are certainly on the cheap / small side, but they were clean and good value for the money.

Stayed in Japanese room. It can be quite cold stayed in wooden room during winter season. The staffs are friendly. The price is quite high stayed inside the park. Room rate including simple breakfast.

Stayed 2 night

Stayed for one night , visiting Alishan national park. The room was average with a little balcony. Stayed at the 3 floor with no elevator. It was cold at night and there was no heating in the room ( only an electric blanket under the sheets..) .The only person who knew English was not always available. For breakfast they sent us for a 5 minutes "walk" up . Very poor breakfast ( for western foreigners..) We were disappointed..

Try abother !

We stayed for 2 nights, I don't want to say basic, it was adequate. Clean, good Wi-fi.  we had a room on the 2nd floor, and we had a balcony, no fridge, but we just left our cold drinks out on the balcony to chill them, you are fairly high (altitude wise) so the temperature was much lower than it was in other parts of Taiwan.  The hotel gave you all the instructions you needed for climbing the mountain for sunrise or sunset, whichever/both you wish to observe.   As for the village, pleasant little place, plenty of eateries and plenty gift shops for you to wonder around.  Don't just come for 1 or 2 nights,  spend a few days here, the transport links are second to none, its a beautiful part of Taiwan, enjoy your time here.  It can take 5/6hrs to get here from Taipei / Kaohsiung by train / bus

Fabulous Little Place

 We went to visit Alishan this June with my parents.
The staff at Wankou Hotel was so nice and helped us organise everything for our trip. They even booked a taxi for me because I decided to climb Mt. Yushan the next day.
We felt so welcome and everybody was so kind and nice. We were given great recommendations on what to do in the area.
The hotel rooms are clean and nice, you should not expect a luxury stay in Alishan but value for money was perfect.
Thanks again to everybody. We really enjoyed our stay in this fantastic hotel.

Outstanding hospitality

If you are visiting the Alishan Forest, you really need to stay in Alishan even though there are limited accommodation options.  We had booked the Wankou Hotel knowing that it would not be anything fancy.  We had instruction from the hotel to contact them when we arrived, and they would send a shuttle bus to bring us to the hotel. They did this very promptly. As we had arrived around 11am, long before our 2pm check in, we were able to leave our bags and start exploring. When we returned to the room later, we saw it was clean, basic accommodation and included a private bathroom. There is no lift so you must use the stairs. Our room had a small balcony and when the cloud/mist cleared the following day, it offered a fine view.  Breakfast was included and held at a restaurant near the car-park but we just bought something from 7-11. The lady on reception was helpful, particularly regarding information about the sunrise etc. Good value accommodation.
