15 reviewsOur sole purpose for staying in the small commune of Miege was because we needed a budget place to stay that was suitable located for the Caprices Festival in Crans-Montana. As accomodation in Crans itself is extremely expensive, Chez Les Dudu in Miege offered somewhere that was easily accessible (via Sierre) at the bargain price we were looking for. We stayed as part of a small group. 2 of our group stayed in a double room, and myself and 3 others stayed in the "dormitory room" which is effectively, a double bunk bed sleeping 4 on the bottom and 4 on the top - so charming!! This room can only be booked in groups of 4, but thankfully, we were the only guests for the 2 nights we were there (I personally think 8 people in the room would have been difficult, but we managed perfectly as a group of 4!) Miege can be accessed from Sierre via bus. The L'Eglise stop is just a 2 minute walk from the accomodation. Due to the bus timetable not suiting us upon our arrival, we decided to attempt to walk from Sierre to Miege as Google Maps said this would only be 3.4kms and take about half an hour. As we had luggage, it did take longer and involved climbing steps and going uphill in general, but it was a good bit of exercise and allowed us to take in the breathtaking mountainous backdrop of the Valais region. Upon arrival, we realised that our dormitory room was housed in a separate chalet style cabin just adjacent to the main building. It was modern, spotlessly clean, with an up-to-date bathroom, plenty of sockets, spare blankets and all linen included as well as a thermostat control for heating and cooling and huge windows which open fully to show off the view. This building had it's own lock and access to a terrace with a 3-seater swing and absolutely jaw-dropping views of the vineyards and snow-capped mountains all around. It was like being in a magical fairy land!! Breakfast was included in the price and our wonderfully friendly host, Patricia provided a selection of delicious home-made jams, a variety of cheeses, fresh breads, tea, coffee, juice, milk, chocolate for us to fill up on and get our day started. She was quite possibly, the most hospitable person I have ever come across in all my time staying in hotels. She literally couldn't do enough for us, whether it was arranging taxis, offering us a bottle of local wine from the region to try, keeping us fed and watered and warm enough, she was an absolute star and a genuinely friendly person, happy to talk and tell stories and make you feel like part of the family! We paid 280 francs between us for 2 nights (Crans Montana would have been at least ten times this!!!) which worked out at around £24/£25 per person, per night and this included breakfast!!!! It was worth 100 times what we paid for the views we experienced alone! We would absolutely return to Miege in a heartbeat. Miege itself is very small and quaint and besides a supermarket and a restaurant, there isn't a lot there, but as a budget option for the Valais, it's absolutely unbeatable!
