We had the most wonderful stay with Hemma in her beautiful home! It is the most perfect setting and our room was absolutely beautiful with an incredible view. We were sad to stay for only one night and could've stayed a lot longer, as it is just so peaceful and Hemma so hospitable. A real highlight of our trip was the most picturesque breakfast in Sri Lanka with the most wonderful breakfast spread! Thank you so much Hemma!

Our room had a stunning view and delivered to our expectations: calm, out of the bust of the city and beautifully designed. We loved the place especially for its space, the interior design and its host, Hemma. She was really focused on making our stay as comfortable as possible and discretely arranged things in the background. It's a place where you can either spend creative time by staying at home or re-fresh after a long day of traveling the sightseeings of Kandy. And it doesn't matter if you travel alone, as a couple or as family: Sama House and Hemma will adjust to you.

I stayed at Sama House for 10 days watercolour painting. My room had the most spectacular view and was very comfortable. Sama House is beautifully decorated and homely. Hemma, the most attentive host.

We arrived at the Sama House in the middle of the night having been driven straight from the airport on our first visit to Sri Lanka. Our driver needed a few phone calls to find the address high up winding lanes out of Kandy on the top of a ridge. We were welcomed, given drinks (it must have been 4am), and shown up to our luxurious room by the charming Hemma. 

We awoke to the most glorious view from our balcony of the river far below, a sea eagle skimming the water, steep jungled slopes opposite, and cloud wreathed mountains beyond. Hemma served the most delicious breakfast on the terrace of tropical fruits, creamy buffalo curd and palm treacle, as well as western fare of eggs and toast and all. 

The spacious stylish modern house furnished with beautiful antiques is a pleasure to be in and a haven from the bustle of Kandy. Hemma was the most gracious and interesting host and became a firm friend, keeping our room and welcoming us back from our trip north - and going to enormous trouble to send on my mobile phone (which hid as we were leaving).  

The total indulgence we didn’t have time to take on either stay would have been to lie in the bath with one of the best views in Sri Lanka.

Sama House is a gem of a B&B: we had the run of the lovely well appointed airy modern private house with old pictures, books and artefacts and comfortable furniture.
Ours was a large bedroom with a balcony overlooking the river and distant mountains.   Breakfast on another balcony with the choice of either enjoying the early morning sun or sitting in the shade.  

 It made Kandy for us and we stayed an extra night.

The owner Hemma treated us as old friends and gave lots of suggestions on things to do.  We had our own transport but she arranged for others to be collected from Kandy station.  
We visited her other property (not on the net as far as I can tell) a tranquil modern farm house about 20 minutes from Kandy on a very steep hillside with views of the Knuckles range.  Had we known about it earlier we would have spent a night there.  As it was we got a delicious home made lunch there, a look round the working farm and a good walk to the highest point on the property.  

We hope to return at such a lovely place
