We recommend Tamarind Gardens to all those who want to do more than just visit tourist attractions!
The "guesthouse" is surrounded by a beautiful landscape, but more importantly, the hosts become friends in no time! We talked with Ayesha and Nalin about God and the world ... During our conversations, we also learnt a lot about everyday life and culture in Sri Lanka. Thanks to their team, who cooked wonderfully, we got to know and love Sri Lankan cuisine! Not to forget that Ayesha, Nalin and their team create the opportunity to get to know a little the daily village life.

It is a real authentic Sri Lankan experience. You can see how local farming is done, experience how organic cheese is made and visit the local village with the most friendliest people. Aiyshe and her husband are super hosts and can give you a real insight to Sri Lankan culture.

Went for a brief visit for a 'high tea'. 
The place is run by Mrs Ayesha Perera and her husband. Both are passionate about what they do. Lovingly tending to their charges. The place is clean and odorless. Goats and Cows and dogs look so healthy and happy. They all  have fancy celebrity names, which was hilarious to hear. Audrey Hepburn, Naomi Campbell, to name a few😃. 
We were served with freshly made delicious scones, thick cream, cottage cheese made from farm ingredients, and other savouries.
Ayesha also helps the village girls  to make use of their talents to earn extra cash for their families.  They turn out beautiful hand crafted cloth bags which are on sale in outlets around  Colombo. She also sells the farm products in Colombo. 
Ayesha also lets out rooms on  homestay basis. They look very basic and clean. 
All in all, it was a lovely experience to see the workings of an organically run farm. 

Amazing property with great authentic village Sri Lankan foods and experiences. Gorgeous farm & really friendly hosts. Totally recommend if you want to stay at a property that truly gives back to the local community through employment on the farm and their communiyy centre where you can buy the most beautifully handmade gifts to take back home with you for loved ones or friends 

Our stay was unforgettable : after the warm welcome, we felt Lila in our own family by sharing the cooking, board games, the visit of the village and its talentuous people, taking care of the animals … thanks for this great experience : next time, we will stay longer !

The food was amazing and we were able to see them cook in the kitchen and learn about their culture. They used local products and their background story was very interesting. I definitely recommend coming here and see how a Sri Lankan lives on a typical day.

Nalin and Ayesha do everything to let you feel at home. They take you around to show you the farm and explain everything about the dairy part of it, which is now - due to covid - the main income.  Staying here is an entirely different way of 'being on holiday' as they let you free in giving a helping hand from which you learn a lot. They prepare you fantastic meals, giving a good taste of all the cheeses they make as well as highlights from their high teas. All staffmembers are so dedicated to their jobs and they really carry out their mission in developping sustainable solutions on the long term. Their bungalows are spatious enough, basic but you have all you need around you, as well as perfect views from your verandah.  No alarm needed as the birds will sing you awake in the morning.

Our host Ayesha and resident head of security Bella gave us a lovely tour around the farm to meet the “girls” (mummy cows) and the goats. Although it is a little rough around the edges, the hosts are doing a great job of taking care of the farm despite lockdown difficulties. 

We enjoyed a scrumptious high tea at the end of it with more choices of bakes and cheese than we could sample.  Their scones  with clotted cream were  the highlight of the tea, on par with some of the best we’ve had  The plantain flower cutlets were an unusual and tasty surprise.

A wonderful afternoon well spent in the homely hospitality of Ayesha and her team at Tamarind Gardens. Thank you!

We visited the property with friends in Feb 2020 during an official meeting in Digana. 
The place was really nice. The sceneries are really lovely located by the lake/river front. 
The staffs are really nice, helpful and informative. 
You can enjoy you stay, farm visit, walk along the water front, dine in etc….
We went on a village tour and had a nice experience walking through different activities of the people.

We spent a night at Tamarind Gardens as part of a G Adventures trip to Sri Lanka and it was definitely a highlight of the trip. Set overlooking a beautiful valley, among rolling hills the views alone were worth the trip; but it was the hospitality of John and Ayesha that stood out. Tamarind Gardens is a working farm with holiday lodges. The farm provides much needed local employment and as a trained chef John cooks the most wonderful food, much of it grown on the farm. A memorable visit.

Family friendly farm visit with memorable high tea

Today we visited Tamarind Gardens for high tea. The 4 of us ladies agreed it was the best high tea we have ever had and the portions were huge. The clotted cream for the scones and coffee eclairs came from the from the farm itself...heavenly!! The mix of savoury and sweet items was perfect. Even if you are not planning on staying here, it makes a lovely outing. Congrats to the owners on running an unique business.

We stayed at Tamarind gardens as part of our G Adventures trip. We had a lovely time there everyone was so welcoming, rooms are quite basic but clean. We had lunch, dinner and breakfast there, all the food was amazing! We got taken for a village walk which was really informing, seeing how the locals live, which is better than any tourist attraction here in Sri Lanka. A very nice community, all the locals are so friendly. This is the place to come if you want to see culture!!! The views of Victoria reservoir were amazing too! Overall it was a lovely experience, definitely recommend!!

An eye opening, amazing experience!

I was delighted that G Adventure took us to this cozy  working farm homestay  as part of there support local women projects.  The food was all locally sourced and breakfast and dinner were amazing - so far the best meals of our two weeks in Sri Lanka.
The wonderful  walking tour  exposed us to rural Sri Lanka village life. Although the accomadation was basic it was impecably clean. You could watch the amazing scenery from  the veranda while  listening  to the birds and occasional moo from the dairy cattle. Had a great sleep under a romantic  mosquito netting.
