Hotel Whiteroyal

We stayed 1 night at the hotel whiteroyal. The room was very clean and big. The owner was extremely friendly and helpfull. The next morning he drove us with his tuktuk to the bus station and made sure that we got on the right one. Overall this hotel was good with friendly staff!

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel in Embilipitiya and really liked it! The owner, Handuwala, is super friendly and received us with a huge smile. He even gave us welcome drinks upon arrival. The hotel is surrounded by many fruit trees and tall palms, where you can sometimes see a monkey or two. There is also a river running behind the property. The room we got was spacious and clean, with a very large bathroom. There is a net hanging above the bed to prevent the mosquitoes from bothering you at night (there are so many!). There was an excellent WiFi signal in the room (extra charge) and a good breakfast was included in our rate. We had dinner made by the hotel’s staff and it was very delicious and affordable. The staff is also very friendly, even though their English skills aren’t the best, but they are always smiling and trying to help. A couple of times they asked if we wanted “king coconut”, and then they would climb a palm tree to give it to us. We also got to try other local specialties.  We didn’t arrange our Udawalawa safari trip through them because we had already made other plans, but they can also arrange it for you. If you’ll be leaving the hotel very early to go on safari, make sure you tell the hotel staff at what time you’ll need to leave, as they lock the front gate during early morning. We didn’t know this and had a bad time trying to get out because we couldn’t find the staff at 5:00 am. The last day the owner gave us a warm farewell and even paid for our tuk-tuk to the bus station! The only improvements I would make are having staff the 24 hours for emergencies, and repairing the bathroom’s sink (which had a leak) and the toilet’s broken seat.

Good option for a hotel near Udawalawa National Park

Very friendly manager

I agree with another reviewer who has reviewed it saying "Worst Place to Stay". It is indeed! 
Do not opt of this Hotel even. We stayed there last december. We were a group of 9 people. Property is big with quite some greenery so first impression is very good. But rooms are pathetic , no hot water and importantly not reliable staff. 
One of our smart phone was stolen from the room where as we were sitting in the Veranda. We did complain in the Police which consumed our time and energy. 
The whole place is quite fishy and does not relax you.

Agree! Dangerous Place to Stay

Sri Lanka has many outstanding accommodations and hosts BUT not this one! 
Rooms are below average, food is good but that's as good as it gets. Our experience was terrible. The owner seemed nice but the whole time lied to us about the price of our safari. He had told us 5000 lkr for two of us, while at the same time he was charging 8000 for 3 Austrian girls staying there. He told us not to tell them because he was giving us a "special" deal. Not thinking we would talk on our safari, we found out quickly he made the same request to the Austrian girls because in fact he offered 4000 lkr for THREE of them! He was trying to keep this knowledge from both groups on the SAME safari and after we confronted him after the safari, he tried to separate us again by pulling us aside and asking to sit on the other side of the restaurant to eat. 
When paying our food bill in the end, he charged us 100 lkr for a plate of fruit and charged the girls 700lkr each for the exact same plate. 
I never write reviews and would never like to write a bad one but I really want to warn people or maybe he will see this and change is entire operation. In the end he tried to make up for it by coming to us while we were leaving with cold coca colas and did not want us to write a review. I am sorry but you can not treat your customers this way.

Worst place in an amazing country. Don't trust owner

we called to this hotel but found the rooms dirty with paint peeling off the walls and a strong smell of mould. We did not stay. they were in the process of painting the outside of the hotel at the time so maybe the will do up the inside next.
