Water's Edge Anuradhapura

So peaceful!  We could have sat on the verandah for hours watching bird and wildlife in the garden. So relaxing.

The staff were friendly and attentive.  We had a lovely evening meal and breakfast. Gluten-free diet catered for very well.  They made us feel very welcome.

It was a great location to visit the temples etc of Anuradhapura. Very accessible.

 We wished we could have stayed longer.........next time!

Stayed with parents. The care taker is called Mangala. We stayed for 2 nights and had booked entire house - which is 3 double rooms. Food was excellent - we had vegeterian food and excellent Sri Lankan Authentic cooking. As many comments Mangala is a genueily good care taker. The lake was swimmable - there is a nice place to swim - safe - just 100m walk. The metal door was locked and cannot get in to the lake from the garden. A lot of birds visit the garden. This visit was during power cuts - daily 2 hour cut. But cool place and was not difficult to pass the time without being uncomfortable. If you want to have a simple vacation, be with the nature ideal location. Kudos to the owener for not spoiling the natural trees and for not over commercialzing the spot. You can just rela wacthing birds - many rare birds did visit (also some monkeys and peacocks).  Note: there is no generator.

Water's Edge was such a delight. The three bedroom bungalow is surrounded by a large garden and views over the lake to the temples beyond - amazing at night time when they're lit up. Mangala and Supun, the hosts, were fantastic and Mangala's cooking was incredible - some of the best Sri Lankan food we've every had. The room was spotless. From the guesthouse it's easy to get a bus into Anuradhapura or towards Wilpattu. There's a large veranda with rattan chairs perfect for relaxing and watching the miryad birds and animals, including peacocks, mongoose and birds of paradise in the garden.

Lovely, as all the other reviewers said. Lake life, the stupas in the distance, and birds and animals can be watched right from the sitting and dining area.
Lovely if you like small rustic personal experience kind of places in nature.
Perhaps a little high priced for the services provided: for example, the mosquito net is a great touch but had at least dozen holes (But there weren't many mosquitos anyway despite the recent rain and slight flooding in the area). And the internet connection of the wifi is very poor, and I got better internet by making a wifi hotspot from the mobitel sim card I'd bought at the airport on arrival in the country. 
The personally cooked meals were always great, and I very much appreciated the excellent fruit after every meal, and the free drinking water.

Very very friendly host !!!  Nice Place .... Many Things to do !! Place to come back !

WATER’S EDGE, TISSA WEVA, ANURADHAPURA 30th JUNE – 2nd JULY 2019

I was fortunate to pay another visit to these premises – one of my favourite locations.

Despite the heat (the area was experiencing a severe drought and most of the smaller waterbodies had dried up), I still managed to enjoy myself immensely. 

Many indigenous and endemic trees have been thoughtfully planted in the extensive garden. The trees and plants were watered every other day in an effort to conserve water. Water in small pots was changed daily and the birds had a welcome drink and dip in these. It is such a delight to watch birds bathe.....how they enjoy splashing about in the water! 

Despite the dry weather I had 54 species of birds on my list. Mammals seen were a young Brown Mongoose – too young to be on his own, and a charming sight as he ran around the dry grass, while a Black-naped Hare hopped in the garden. 

At night, while seated on the verandah looking across the waters of the Tissa Weva, the tranquility I experienced was almost palpable. 

The food, as usual, was excellent. Cook Mangala surpassed himself with tasty curries and a chicken dish one night which was mouth-watering.
High standards of cleanliness and comfort are maintained. Snowy white linen and air conditioned rooms made us comfortable. The staff were attentive and at hand to attend to our needs.

It was sad when my holiday came to an end as this is one location that I never tire of visiting. Its proximity to tanks and waterways makes it ideal for keen birders while those on cultural excursions will also find its location ideal.

Our stay at Water’s edge was simply wonderful. The home and the grounds are beautiful, very tastefully decorate and so private, it feels like you are in an exclusive private villa. The staff were so kind and attentive, and the food simply delicious. We were spoiled!

WATER’S EDGE, TISSA WEVA, ANURADHAPURA 7TH - 10TH DECEMBER 2018

I have visited this magical location many times and never fail to find something new and delightful during each visit. 

The peace and serenity I experience while sitting on the verandah at night looking at the three Dagobas of Mirisawetiya, Ruwanwelisaya and Jetawanaramaya illuminated across the tranquil waters of the Tissa Weva, totally rejuvenate me.  

The garden is spacious and as an enthusiastic birder, I have found many interesting species of birds within the premises, along the shores of the Tissa Weva and even in the home gardens of the neighbours.

The rooms are comfortable and clean with snowy white linen. The food is sumptuous- authentic local fare with some Western dishes also available. The cook Mangala is a treasure. The staff are attentive and eager to please.

This is an ideal place for a holiday. It can also serve as a base for visiting the Sacred City, the numerous Tanks or “Wevas” and irrigation canals built by our ancestors and other places of interest in the North Central Province.
    
I am always reluctant to leave at the end of my stay and keep wishing for a few more days at this enchanting property.

it was a very peaceful stay and both Ravi and Mangala made us feel very welcome. the food was as per our requirements. The view from the hotel is fantastic.

We had an amazing time at Waters Edge. It was truly home away from home. The staff went above and beyond to take great care of us. The food was delicious every single time and the hospitality....so gracious! The view is spectacular and the environment itself is just what you need if you're looking for a peaceful place. I'd go back there in a heart beat!

Excellent for birding.

With so many large hotel constructions coming up in Anuradhapura, Waters Edge clearly stands out with its homely style. This little bungalow over looks the Tissawewa with some stunning views of three dagobas - Mirisawetiya, Ruwanweli Maha Seya & Abayagiriya. For those who hate large hotels and want a simple and relaxing stay - go for it!
If you are a birder, grab yourself a cup of coffee and sit back on the verandah, the garden itself is the home for some amazing birds!

Harmonious Stay

Amazing in every way 

Being back in Anuradhapura after so long, was looking for a place to stay that was close to the Atamasthana as well as allowed us to relax and get some rest. Couldn't have found a better place as this is located across the Tissa Wewa with a magnificent view of the Ruwanweliseya, Mirisawetiya and Jethawanaramaya dagobas from the verandah, where I spent hours just sitting and enjoying the view. Superb photos ops. Unfortunately July 2017 was very dry and the water in the Tissa Wewa was very low, but was still within 120 meters of the front porch.
