Ewha Hostel

Lovely guesthouse! If you are expecting a fancy full service hotel then you will be disappointed but for what you are paying Ewha is one of the best guest houses/hostels I’ve stayed in. The room is small but very clean and comfortable. The location is excellent, only a few minutes walk to a subway station, buses directly out the front of the hotel and the heart of myeongdong literally 1 min around the corner. The bed is a little firm for my liking but I often find that is the case in Asia. The pillows were very comfortable though. The windows are double layered keeping the room nice and warm when we visited Seoul in winter and also blocking out all noise which is fantastic considering it’s busy location. The bathroom is very clean, compact but with everything you need. The bathroom is a wet room, but again very common in Asia and we had no issues with it, it is a practical space saving measure. You are provided with body soap, shampoo and ‘rinse’ which I think is conditioner but I didn’t try it as I brought my own. The body wash we did use and that was nice though. They also provide a bar of soap and body sponges. Two bath towels, two hand towels and a bath mat. There are also room slippers and shower shoes but again we brought our own so didn’t use them. The room has a TV, little desk, mini fridge and excellent wifi. Room cleaning is every second day and on request but as we were only there three nights we didn’t need new towels or sheets so we simply didn’t request the service. There is an elevator to the rooms and a hot and cold water filter machine on each level which was a nice touch. Breakfast is downstairs (no elevator) - the steps are very steep so may be an issue if you have mobility issues but we were fine. Breakfast consisted of coffee, tea, juice, milk, toast with a number of spreads, ham and cheese, boiled egg, packet soup and packet ramen. Very simple but very reasonable. You do your own dishes at breakfast which is standard for a hostel/guesthouse but they have good sponges, soap and drying racks so it really isn’t a bother at all. The staff were the highlight of our stay, they were all very friendly and helpful, helping us print tickets, reserve tables and restaurants and suggestions good places to eat where local Koreans rather than tourists go! Particularly we would like to thank Sein/Sean (sorry not sure of the spelling). Because he was so lovely, always greeted us with a big smile and gave us a fantastic recommendation for Korean BBQ nearby and we had a delicious dinner! Thank you!
