Spending two nights in Springfontein‘s Riverside Lodge we again felt very home from home, enjoying peace and quiet away from any urban hustle and bustle, with beautiful views over Klein River Valley and walks along Walker Bay at daytime, and deep sleeps at night. 

We will be back.

Springfontein is a beautiful secluded wine farm with various buildings. We had booked the Fisherman’s Cottage which is either 1 minute drive away from the main house or a few minutes to walk (very safe). The cottage has stunning views across the river and mountains and is very peaceful, perfect for a romantic get-away. 
The cottage itself is large, with a very good bed and modern bathroom. It is however quite simple, not very fancy or overly luxurious, which is reflected in the good price. The terrace is pretty but sadly not facing the view or the sunshine. An extension of the terrace and a few deck chairs would have made a big difference for us. Also we did not have internet connection anywhere on the farm except the wifi at the main house...actually quite good for us to switch off.
Springfontain Eats is an amazing restaurant with outstanding food and service, and the adjacent wine bar is also very cozy and offers more simple food as well.
I highly recommend staying here if you are looking for great food, peaceful surroundings and beautiful landscapes!

Beautiful peaceful place

What a cosy hideaway 

Accommodation good and staff very pleasant and helpful.     However there does seem to be a lack of organization.     There were several omissions in our room that were dealt with on second day, namely no bedside table or lamp;  no waste paper basket;  no tissues;  no comfortable outside chairs/ loungers.     For the price, we felt that we shouldn’t have had to ask.
Dining was satisfactory but their estate wines are totally overpriced.  Breakfast on first day took forever.    There doesn’t appear to be a toaster and jam and marmalade was unavailable on both days.

Rather over priced

We had one night here after a dinner at Springfontein Eats. The whole estate is a large area, you will have to walk some minutes from the central building where the wine tasting and the restaurant are located. In our small house in a cottage style were two big rooms, one with a small kitchen area, living room and an open-hearth  fireplace, the other one with a kind of en-suite bedroom, bathroom with shower, tube and toilet. Outdoor shower as well as a terrace with fine view on the whole area, a swimming pool ca 50 ft away. We slept very well, but around 5 a.m. the nature wakes up with birds, squirrel or monkeys, and you become aware that you are in the middle of nature. No problem for us, but we did not like this en-suite arrangement because it allows you also to hear every sound even caused by your partner‘s manifestations of live... Everything worked in the facility, so nothing to worry about. Breakfast next morning was fine, you will have it in the restaurant. Coming back? Maybe, but not in that cottage.

Cottage Style

We booked the Fishermans cottage for a night stay. Not really what i imagined when i was looking through the website pictures. The Fishermans cottage description on the website says historic cottage renovated to offer all the comforts of the modern world in a romantic one-room unit. To start off with you have a beautiful fireplace to look at when lying in bed but the mattress is worn out. The place also need a good fumigate, fish moths everywhere! You cant really make use of the patio, it is in full sun, with no umbrella and the patio furniture literally falls apart. With no divider to the side people at the restaurant look out on your patio. Not very private, unless you don't mind your view to be people eating at the main building. The bathroom is beautiful though and the staff is friendly.

Not impressed

We booked a two night stay in one of the suites in riverside cottage. When we arrived, the very friendly staffmember brought us to our suite. At least, that is what he told us. When we compared the room we were in to the pictures on the website, we saw no resemblance. We went back to the office, where we were told that a mistake had been made: a double booking. They asked us to be so kind to stay for one night in the (much cheaper) suite we were brought to (in another guesthouse). The second night we could stay in the suite we had booked. No explanation why they did not tell us that right away, though. If we had not found out ourselves about the mistake, no one would have told us and we would have paid the full amount for a cheaper room.
They offered us the first night for free as a compensation. We reluctantly accepted the offer, because we had no where else to go for the night.
When we checked out after the two night stay, the invoice indeed showed only one night, which we payed.
We were astonished when we got back home and saw that they had also deducted the first night from our credit card! Despite several attempts to get in contact with them about this, they never replied to our mails and never transferred the money back to us.
These people seem so nice, but are a bunch of crooks, liars and thieves. Be aware!
