Village Hotel Albert Court by Far East Hospitality

Decent accommodation in Singapore is difficult to find at a good price, especially with the weak Australian dollar. I have been searching for years to find the right balance between quality and price and I think that I have finally found it at Village Hotel Albert Court. The hotel feels like it's part of a village based around Albert Court, with some wonderful bars and restaurants nearby. And it offers great far eastern hospitality. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The room was excellent and certainly adequate for my needs. Breakfast was good, if a little crowded. The hotel has been built behind a row of shophouses, preserving their heritage, and the restaurant is a bit constrained because it occupies the upper floors of several shop houses. It's a worthy price to pay to preserve the history of the area. I love the whole area - it's a short walk (or a single stop on the MRT) to Bugis Junction, via the famous Bugis Street. It's a short walk (or one MRT stop) to everything that wonderful Little India has to offer. The MRT (Rochor) is very close to get you anywhere you want to go in the city. There are numerous food courts and hawker centres within walking distance. The cafe voted the best in Asia (Apartment Coffee) is just down the road if you are a 'coffee snob'. If you stay, take my advice and eat Chinese food at Fatty's (just down Albert Street), and western (Italian inspired) food at Mangiamo in the Albert Court village.
