Transylvania Cowboy Cottage

Staying at the Cowboy Cottage in Cluj is a thing you mst have done. The cottage is like a small museum, but very spacious. The host gave us a small tour of all his collections, which are quite a lot 😉. You have lots of privacy in this accommodation, but within 10 minites you're in the city center. We strongly recommend this place!

We stayed here for three nights and didn't regret our decision to come here. The cottage is very big and the interior is neat! It has everything you need for the stay in Cluj and is not far away from the city center. It's more than worth the price. Would come here again! 

Never have stayed before in such a interesting decorated place like a Cowboy cottage. Place is full of details and very nicely decorated. Hosts are very pleasant. Big recommendations for this place, very valuable for the price.

Hi, i was in the Cowboy Cottage for 10 Days. I`m two times a year in Cluj and always change my staying from hotels to apartments, hostels etc... 
The Cowboy Cottage is placed somehow on a rooftop with a nice view on the city. It is in a smaller dead-end street, so its really quite around (of course, sometimes dogs are barking). The Cottage itself is really really special and full of characteristics! If you want a luxury spa Hotel, this is not the way you should go. But if you like a wooden "homefeeling" ambiente then check this one out.
The Owner and his family are extremely friendly and speak excellent english, so no problems with communication. 

This is excellent budget accommodation about 5 minutes' walk up a hill out of Cluj.

The hosts are both very friendly and helpful - we were treated to freshly baked covrigi as we left, which was a lovely gesture.

We stayed in the Horse room, which is a good-sized apartment with two sofabeds (very comfortable), a bathroom with good hot shower, and decorated with more horse pictures and ornaments than you are likely to ever see in one room ever again.

The accommodation is clean, comfy and perfectly located for a weekend in Cluj. I would definitely stay again.

Cottage is amazing. We loved it!

Negatives

- First question asked by the owner was if we have the money not "Welcome! How do you feel in our house? How was the trip?";
- Reservation on Booking was confirmed for 196 EUR which equaled approximately 871 lei on the day of our arrival (28 EUR/day for a total of 196 EUR). The owner asked for 900 lei upfront which amounts to over 200 EUR without offering any receipt or bill;
-  When the owner was told about the price of the reservation on Booking he accepted the 871 lei (196 EUR at the exchange rate on the date of arrival). We asked for a bill and the question was "Do you have the data of the company for it?" which is not correct. The customer should not ask first for the bill, the owner of a business should offer the bill immediately after receiving a cash payment;
- A bill was provided for the money paid at around 23:00 on the first day of our stay, without us asking urgently for it. From our point of view this amounts to a subtle aggression towards the customer. We could have been asleep or in our underwear;
- The bill had the usual amount charged by the guest house to the customer (125 lei/day) which amounted to 875 lei which is way off the 900 lei asked for on the spot. We wanted to pay the extra amount of money (the difference of 4 lei) and the owner refused to take the money;
- If you decide to stay here ask for a bill because without a bill a customer pays everything: the taxes to the state and the services provided by the guest house. If you decide not to ask for a bill you can ask the owner for at least 10% off the fee you see on Booking (10% is the average amount of taxes a touristic business pays to the state and the local town-hall).
- There is a 5 EUR/day charge for the A/C that does not appear on reservation sites;
- We booked the Horse Room and we were offered the "Cowboy in Transylvania" room without any explanation.
- Weird smell of the bed sheets or the bed;
- We asked for a bed sheet change in our room despite the fact that this should have been done by them without us asking for it;
- We took our trash out during the seven days that we stayed there despite the fact that we were not supposed to do that;
- Coffee machine was dirty and we cleaned it in order to use it;
- The boiler in the room barely had hot water for two people - 13 liters according to the owners;
- The towels provided by the guest house had a weird old sweaty smell;

Positives

- Location - the guest house is in the central part of the city - in walking distance of major touristic sites;
- View - from the room in the attic we had an almost 360 degrees view of the city which was nice;
- Kitchenette - in the room - we were able to prepare some food in the morning and coffee;
- Coffee making machine in the room;
- Hair dryer available in the room;
- Information - the wife of the owner provided us with info regarding places to visit outside Cluj which were much appreciated;
- The room we stayed in was big;
- Parking spot - inside a closed and safe space for the car;
- The guest house is in a quiet part of central Cluj;
- No disturbing noises in the evenings or early mornings.
