Casa tucanes

I was the first guest to stay at Casa Tucanes and it was terrific! The owners and manager are lovely people and did everything they could to accommodate my longer term stay and make me feel part of the family! The house is quiet, the bed and room were very comfortable, AC worked well and water is hot, when needes! The owners are Dutch and brought their green thumb to Bocas....the garden is beautiful and so much love was put into it....the most fragrant ylang ylang trees. I keep in touch with the manager and although, they’ve had to take a short break (2019 winter), they’ll be back soon enough and I hope to stay again! It’s a great location for bird watching (at 4 p.m. the parrots feed right there), it’s steps from the beach and a $2-3 taxi ride into town. The owners designed and built the house and were super smart to put in a “mote”, with water hyacinth flowers growing and fish swimming in it, around the front of the house...the flowers attract bugs that eat all the mosquitoes! The “mote” also prevents the property from flooding, like what happens to the house next door. If you’re lucky, you might even see the caiman (small crocodile) swimming in there....it won’t eat you! The house is one of the only concrete homes in the island, which is great because it stays cool and dry! The kitchen is small, but it was perfectly fine for cooking basic meals!
