Casa Lucia

We stayed two nights at Casa Lucia: the first one when we arrived in Managua and the last one, before our departure. This was the perfect start and finish to our trip. Claudio and his family have created an amazing environment at their place. We felt safe and at home with them and got lots of practical advice to our trip. This family loves to travel and have a deep knowledge of Nicaragua and its culture. Casa Lucia is well located if you want to walk to one or two restaurants nearby, which is very convenient considering that Managua did not look like a walking-friendly type of city. We arrived late on a Saturday and it was great to just be able to walk safely to a restaurant instead of having to get other transportation. Claudio also made himself available to give us recommendations and help us with whatever we needed before our arrival and during our stay. It's a very personal type of service and we have gained a lot by having long chats with Claudio's dad and sister. On Sunday before we left early, Claudio's mum cooked nacatamales for us, which is a typical Sunday brunch dish. There was also eggs and gallo pinto. Our first contact with Nicaraguan food was amazing! We also had them on our last breakfast in Nicaragua. A perfect goodbye. The rooms are modest but clean. Do not expect any luxuries. There is air-conditioning and a private bathroom. I think that there was no hot water, however I do recall that it was so warm in Managua that actually cold water was more appealing.
