Hotel Chico Largo

Having read the reviews, we didn't want to book the hotel. However, it was the only affordable hotel left for us, we decided to stay 2 nights and were positively surprised!
- large rooms with working air condition and normal bathroom (only issue was no toilet seat)
- great garden to hang out, take a bath in the lake and enjoy the sunset
- extremely friendly staff helped us to organize our motorbike tour and tips for our next stop at SJDS
- amazing food for regular island prices
- felt super safe, hotel staff even took care of our belongings
--> we can definitely recommend this place!

I camped at Chico Largo and ended up staying a week I loved it so much. I am traveling long distance by bike and had no security issues. The family let me store my valuables and were very helpful & kind. They don't speak English & I think this is maybe why people are perceiving them as unfriendly which would be a shame as I have traveled through Latin America for 9 months and this is one of my best experiences. There is a gorgeous hiking trail close by and I saw many monkeys and swam on beautiful secluded beaches with incredible views of Volcano Concepcion. This spot is a gem and I enjoyed the food & staff very much.

We stayed in a nice room with two double beds. The garden is beautiful and it has the most amazing swimming pool. The food was great and the owners were very friendly. It's a quiet and chill place for great value. There are very little vegetarian options on the menu, but if you want a change there are other places nearby that offer different dishes so it doesn't really matter. We enjoyed our stay very much!

Amazing place! 

Big surprise - amazing place!

Basic tranquility in paradise

I'm going to write the review on the basis of my sleep quality there, all in all I would give four stars to the place based on the facilities, the location and the effort of the staff. I stayed at one of the dorms for only 10usd. I consider myself pretty lucky as I was the only one in the room. The room is clean, beds are nicely made (no bunk beds only single beds, great!) towel provided, the en-suit bathroom is clean spacious, but no toilet seat. No lockers but I was given a key for the room. My room was downstairs and sadly the building was built with using concrete for the walls but the ceiling and the first floor is made solely by think wood, pretty much you hear every single footsteps banging over your head! The ceiling is so thin that literally makes it super difficult to sleep because of the constant echoey banging from above. My upstairs neighbours weren't making noise on purpose , this just how the place is built. Other than that it's a very quiet place with only a few people camping outside, not the best place is you are ready to mingle. I did like the place though, but I wish I had had an upstairs room, no foot steps and a good night sleep! 

Nice place but not the best sleep

Our tour guide suggested staying at this place. After hiking volcano concepion it was a cute place to stay. It was cheap for a double private room based on two people sharing. Based on the beach. The staff were friendly. But The room was warm at night, there was an old fan in the room which didnt rotate and made sleeping uncomfortable. The room was clean. We received towels. We could see the volcano from The bathroom window. We had a bath and shower head which is part of the bedroom, which we actually really liked. The sink basin would leak after each use. The toilet did not have a seat on!! We ate in the hotel next door, they make delicious banana and chocolate milkshakes. We had a pleasant breakfast, toast and eggs. Coffee was tasteless. There were children around, but couldnt hear them. One of the staff members drove us to the port ( charged us normal taxi rates). I would recommend this place for a quick stop over.
