The accommodation was good with views of the coast. The staff were friendly and the restaurant had terrific atmosphere. There are places of interest to visit within a short distance.
 Wish I could go again

There is nothing at Terrace Bay but the sea, the chalets, a small shop and some houses, for the people who work there.
The chalets are simple but very clean and suitable furnished. They all face the sea and have bathrooms with shower, a fridge and tea and coffee facilities. When we stayed there, there were no other "normal" tourists, only some fishermen.
The restaurant was surprisingly good, better than in some of the expensive lodges, particularly considering, how isolated the place is.
I can only recommend this as a change from the usual resorts, so much more quiet and a totally different experience from the mainstraim Namibian destinations.
The accommodiation has to be prebooked.

We enjoyed our drive up to Terrace Bay Lodge immensely. The very subtle but ever changing landscape from Swakopmund to Terrace Bay is beautiful. And the Lodge a very welcome end to a day's drive. It's this that makes this lodge great. If the same lodge was in Swakopmund I wouldn't stay there but its fitting in the position it is. Most other guest were from South-Africa, staying here for fishing. 
In the morning we spotted a black-backed jackal on the beach. Amazing to see a jackal in this setting, with a sandy beach an huge waves in the background. 
If we visit this part of Namibia again, I will definitely drive up to Terrace Bay Lodge and stay here again.

I did not know there was still a place on this planet left alone, untouched, virgin, pristine, or even so restricted and inaccessible to most of us all - with much reason, due to its sensitive and fragile qualities - but so beautiful that I do struggle to find words to describe it. Only a few fishing amateurs have access to it to practice their angling techniques. For  them though this place is paradise. Unlike them, I am simply someone who loves photography, who has been looking for a place to be away from everyone, from the world. A paradise away from this crazy, tough, careless world of ours to say the least. Namibian authorities jealously protect this special ecological area due to its unique type of ecosystem and mineral resources that can still be found scattered and seen laying over the surface of the sand. The lion of the desert as well as many other species acoustic or not thrive in such rough environment. Terrace Bay is yet one step closer to the real end of the civilized world. That point on the map is still even more restricted than this one, and its name is Mowe Bay,  further north west along the Atlantic Ocean shoreline, where no one will be allowed to go to unless a very difficult government permit is obtained prior to entering the Skeleton Coast National Park. This stunning area left me as speechless for its incredible beauty as it was surprisingly disconnected from everything on this planet. The small resort established by Namibia Wildlife Resorts is simple and functional and offers all one may need: Succulent breakfast and delicious dinner -essentially fresh fish caught in the ocean’s waters - prepared by a chef with most care and dedication. Every employee goes far beyond expectations in trying to welcome the few privileged visitors like me allowed to enter into this very restricted zone of Africa. I then found what I was looking for: Solitude, isolation, disconnection, and the most basic elements like the sound of the wind blowing, with which I had my best profound sleep those nights, the sea itself, the sand dunes taking over the gravel road that draw this amazing lunar landscape, the whales seen from far, the line of the coast going up north to Angola, the elusive majestic Oryx running free, the sun rising and the special light of the Namibian   sunset along with the infinite vastness, as I have never seen before, of the most ancient desert on the planet: The Namib Desert. I needed nothing. I realized how wonderful life can be; I found myself again. Thanks to Terrace Bay, a million thanks to all who work there to keep this place as wild and perfect as it is. 

We ended up here as a result of having got to Springbokwasser too late to go to Cape Cross - VE WARE AND CHECK TIMES AND PASS REQUIREMENTS IN ADVANCE of heading to the Skeleton Coast!!! The very kindly rangers at the gate helped us with the revised plan for our journey.
We were so lucky to do so, whilst it is basic, it is clean and has comfortable beds, hot water, good food and decent bar. 
The staff, especially Raven, were fab and helped us as weary travellers.
This is a lovely, particularly barren and remote part of the Skeleton Coast.
Being able to, or rather encouraged, to sign our names on the ceiling added to the sense of being at the edge of somewhere.

It basically exists for people on fishing trips.

Tourists are less usual however I love the raw landscapes.

I had stayed in 2004 and it was incredibly basic. I was really taken with the improvements on this visit. New windows and doors the cabins are cosy now. Huge bathroom. Freshly painted and pleasing if simple decor.

Don't come expecting a Hilton, however I was really taken with how comfortable it was. 

NWR rates are reasonable for DBB basis. Staff were really wonderful. They have fuel and Wi-Fi.

Highly recommended if you wish to enjoy this unique raw environment for a night.

We know Terrace bay well, you either love it or you hate it. We love it. The hospitality and being at the end of the world. The rooms are clean, but basic. Staff are willing to assist with anything you ask. Food is great if you consider how remote this destination is. Rooms does need some maintenance. Canvasses on the stoep whould be great to keep out the extreme sun in the afternoon. 

Fishing was great! 

One thing that demands immediate attention is the electricty as we literally shocked on the bathroom taps on our last day - which was immediately reported. This poses a very high risk to vistors. Management please urgently intervene!

I'm not sure where to start - the good or the BAD, yes BAD needs to be capitalised.  The review is rated 4/5, as besides the dirt and broken stuff, we had an overall good experience.

BAD won - I cannot believe that the accommodation at NWR Terrace Bay has gotten so BAD.  We stayed in the 8-bed self-catering house.  We were welcomed to the house by used earbuds, a pile of dirt left under the broom, an absolutely filthy BBQ grid (thank goodness we always take our own!) and dirty cutlery in the kitchen.  The sofas in the lounge were still in disarray from the cleaning attempt.   There were pubic hairs in the one bathtub and braid hair on the floor.  The chest freezer was iced up with blood, and the previous people's old fishing bait. The plastic cover over the dining table was dirty, and the windows too.  Ugh.  

Maintenance is a word that NWR Terrace Bay does not understand.  The toilet seat that was broken on our previous visit (Jan 2023), was still broken, so was the towel railing.  Another toilet's seat was missing.  

We wanted to get the housekeepers in to clean the house again, but decided against it.  They were happy with the way they cleaned the house, and obviously they couldn't clean it better than it was.  After about an hour, we had the house cleaned in such a way that was acceptable to us. 

GOOD - there is a very nice new addition to the house - a brick BBQ area.  It makes life sooo much easier.  There is a great view from the dining area, we were lucky enough to see dolphins in the bay.  The beds and pillows are comfy.  

Yes, we will stay there again as the fishing is great.  Next time, there will be a phone call before we arrive to ensure that the house is properly cleaned and maintenance issues are sorted.

Arriving after a reasonable drive and check in to find adjacent rooms overlooking the sea. Some went fishing with limited success whilst others sat comfortably on veranda sharing wine!
Unexpectedly food was way better than anticipated! Service was adequate. 
Fortunately there was fuel to get us up the Skeleton Coast and into Haonib

We went with low expectations due to the multitude of bad reviews. The road to Terrace Bay was surprisingly good and the park entrances well managed. When we arrived we had to wait a bit to check in, but the staff were all very friendly and helpful. The chalet is dated but clean with all the amenities one needs. The shower water was hot with sufficient pressure.  WiFi and cell phone reception were consistently very good. Breakfast and dinner were simple but well prepared and tasty and served with a smile. The atmosphere in the restaurant is of course one of a kind and must be experienced. The fishing was good, but very exhausting, because the rocky beach is certainly a challenge and requires a lot of energy, especially if you are a little older. The only complaint we have is that a group of visitors fished clearly outside the park's boundaries and the marine fisheries official was absent. The matter was reported. We will surely visit again. Kudos to the staff who provide good service and meals despite the fact that Terrace bay is far from any market.

Remote Bleak and Beautiful

Much better than expected

We stayed in a catered chalet at Terrace Bay for one night in late August 2021. It was a spectacular experience. The atmosphere was incredibly peaceful and the views from our chalet were incredible. The chalet itself was clean, but minimal. We were happy with the comfy beds and warm water. There's also a small fridge and a kettle in each room. Both breakfast and dinner is included in the price, and these are taken in a restaurant near reception. The food was quite delicious. We especially appreciated the fresh fish that was served during our stay. Do know that the power turns off in the afternoon.

The only reason we give Terrace Bay four stars is for the simple fact that, if you don't fish, there's not much to do around here! We loved our one-night stay, but it's a long distance for most people to drive without the most dynamic landscape. If you're looking to truly get off the beaten track and go off-grid, Terrace Bay will suit you perfectly.

Gorgeous escape, but limited activities if you don't fish

When we finally reached Terrace Bay Restcamp it was like arriving at another planet. Everything seemed abandoned. The main reception was closed and we couldn't find any people or staff. At least, there were signs of civilization. As we were driving around for a while in this dark and deserted lunar base, we saw light in the distance. We found a way to the light. It turned out to be the restaurant (basic cafeteria), where we were greeted by friendly staff. No one had missed us.

We got our huge Beach Chatlet with five bedrooms, three bathrooms, large living room and kitchen. Completely surreal. Everything was simple but functional and clean. You sense it was originally built for the mine staff until the goverment took over in the 1970s

We slept exceptionally well that night. The roaring sea and the wind did not keep us awake. 

This is a fantastic place because of the extraordinary location and the friedly staff, not the facilities.

This lodge being the endpoint of a absolutely beautiful drive from Swakop up the skeleton coast is what makes it great!
