What a pleasant surprise. The quirks of Burmese hotels can be charming, but after 3 weeks of 'charming', a night at a place like Hotel Memory is welcome. Modern bathroom with large shower and plentiful hot water. Comfy beds and BBC News on the TV. Small refrigerator. Bustling activity on the nearby streets, but perfectly quiet at night. Breakfast is served in a huge space on the top floor. Great views all around and a wide variety of food on offer. As always in Myanmar, super friendly and helpful staff. They verified the basics regarding the ferry to Mrauk U--walk down Main Rd and buy your ticket at the office day before; the hotel can't buy it on your behalf. They hailed a tuk tuk to drive me to the boat dock the following day. I didn't see a single tourist while in Sittwe, so spend the night and enjoy the experience. It's not as bad as most tourists would lead you to believe.
