Excellent
14 reviewsIn spite of few shortcomings, one just falls in love with this place....the rooms are very large, decorated with chic Burmese artefacts. In some ways it reminds me of some top African lodges. Wood flooring in the rooms, shower floor is tiled with modern black non slip tiles, walls in rough beige stone. The shower gel, shampoo and body lotion were in largish containers which did not respond to pumping, reported to staff, sorted. There seems to be a miniscule basket with sewing kit and something tiny which could have hidden cotton buds... Not nice , easily remedied. Curtains needed cleaning. Bed was good and pillows fine. I did not like their complimentary water. Pone only bottle only per room. It is served in those bottles with rubber seal and metal wire. This means that they refill it from their purified water source... Since water is not safe to drink chances are that the bottle was refilled with good water but handled and washed with unsafe water. In the main hotel building they use polished cement as flooring and staircase to the restaurant. Restaurant is well laid out and the chef is excellent. The service staff is a bit lost. They congregate next to the kitchen door and seem to be looking at the restaurant but amazingly manage not to see a thing. The table covers are generally not up,to standard. You find previous people's food stains awaiting you when you are seated. Like in most places in Myanmar and Vietnam your clean forks and knives are put on the dirty tablecloth ... They are slow clearing and taking orders. But - having said that - the food is really great and when it arrives on a big wooden serving dish ( also sometimes not quite clean) it is a real treat.. GM is there all the time and very receptive. If anything is not right, once pointed out it gets quickly fixed. There is free WiFi...but it is so slow that in fact you do not have it. If you cannot live without connectivity this place is not for you. So ...the overall experience, marvellous in spite all shortcomings.
