When I went the service was amazing the rooms were so clean and I recommend going to anyone who hasn't. The food there was absolutely delicious and I had such a great experience. I would definitely come again!

Clean, quiet, rustic and cosy resort perfect for a quiet time away from city.

Staffs are warm and friendly to try and cater to all needs.

Fresh air are plentiful due to lush nature surrounding.

Able to experience comfort admist without driving too far from Yangon.

Menu are relatively limited but all items are quality, especially the cakes.

I felt I had to add a review here after reading the previous review dated December 2020. Whilst I wasn't there and so can't comment on what happened, as a regular guest at HTG over my three years in Yangon, this experience would definitely be counted as a very rare experience indeed and an exception to the rule as far as the lovely team at HTG are concerned. Definitely a one-off event!

I have stayed at HTG many times - alone, with friends and with family - and every time, my experience has been nothing short of exceptional. Mimi and her family have welcomed us always with great warmth and kindness. the resort is their family home and has a very cosy, family feel to it, even though it is quite spacious. The decor is wonderfully unique, with many beautiful artworks and artefacts that reflect the wealth of Myanmar culture. No request has ever been too much trouble and they went out of their way to welcome my parents when they came to stay in December 2019, and to me when I went out to stay for my birthday. 

The staff, many of whom come from within the locally community and whom Mimi herself personally invests a huge of time and effort to train them up, have mastered a perfect combination of attentiveness and knowing when to leave you be - a rare gift in the Myanmar hospitality industry, partly because Myanmar people are so incredibly welcoming and gracious and want to ensure you have a wonderful time! 

HTG is without doubt my favourite place to stay in Myanmar and a wonderful haven of peace and quiet, close to Yangon. It is a boutique hotel, with a degree of bespoke service, including food cooked to order to ensure minimum wastage, so you would expect to pay a bit more for the service. I am sorry that the previous guest felt cheated by their visit but I can only say that this has never, ever been my experience. I have only extremely high praise for the place and I cannot wait to be able to return to visit once again!

Perfect Escape from city Life

An absolute haven!

Sunday morning we departed to Bago for a drive out to get fresh air! Passed by the signage of this resort and we turned around to enter. It was closed with a signboard of reservation guests only. Saw another signage of contact phone numbers. 

Called and said that we were interested to have lunch but we had no prior reservation. A girl explained us that we were allowed to enter if we agreed to have set or a la cart lunch at minimum value of ..$ per person. 

We said “Ok” and asked to open the gate to enter and choose the menu. Nothing much to see initially but an unfinished construction awaited when driving into the resort. Parked our car at the parking lot and then continued along the walkway (which was under construction works too.)

Entered into the sitting area - nice and clean and then continued to the open-space restaurant next to pool. Very limited menu and mainly were local normal dishes. We asked any other menu available but the waiter was not keen to help but insisted us to choose from this menu list. 

Thanks to the girl who answered our call as she was so helpful enough to request the Chef to fulfill our requests. A Whole chicken BBQ and mango salad were really good and we could say we had a delicious lunch!!! 

In short, Quiet and green place but it’s not much interesting enough to visit again.

This hotel is fine. Our room was quite nice, but I hear the cheapest ones are a little pokey. The main reception area is quite pleasantly spacious. The pool is alright but has limited space to relax (I think five sun loungers) so if the hotel is busy and you don't do that 6am chuck your towel down to save a spot, you may may find yourself lying on the grass nearby.  

The main issue with this place is how they just try to milk you of all the money they can. We were charged US$100 for two single mattresses to be placed on the floor of our room (calling it an extra bed would be generous), making the whole room around US$285. When trying to organise transport we had to pay $140 for a return car to Yangon because we supposedly couldn't take the main road because of COVID-19 checkpoints. The way there took over two hours along back roads as expected, and then on the way back they just took the main road, not exactly justifying the cost. They tried to charge us US$10 for a broken champagne glass that was smashed in my friend's hand when an individual for another group popped it at him. They took this off when we pointed out it wasn't our fault, but what kind of establishment charges their customers for accidents like that? I've never heard of it in a restaurant or bar before. US$19 for a veggie burger (and no other vegetarian mains to choose from) that was delivered at about 10.30pm on New Year's Eve - I'd almost forgotten it was coming. US$6 for a bowl of rice to share at our table at lunch. They were happy to tell us they were low on staff and we would get worse service, but clearly they would not reflect that in the cost.

When we checked out the white dude who presumably owned the place was standing right there and did not come to say thank you or ask how things were - pretty dreadful for a small hotel. Perhaps he knew we weren't happy... We complained to the local staff but clearly this stuff is all out of their control and we didn't want to make them feel too bad, and they didn't escalate it. One did apologise and say it was "peak" season. 

Really would recommend not staying here and just going to Bulaein down the road. A much nicer hotel with better service and a cheaper price. 

I will caveat that if we had prepared more in advance for New Year's Eve we would not have accepted the prices but given we had no time we were somewhat resigned to it.
