Riad Bel Haj

September 2025 Our stay exceeded our expectations on so many levels. We felt we got lucky booking here. Firstly the location: The Riad Bel Haj is in the Medina only about 50 metres from one of the entrances through the wall. So you only had a short walk from the taxi, they sent staff to porter our luggage for us. Being inside the wall meant not having to travel to the Medina, you are already there. Many attractions are on your doorstep, obviously you have to travel to the Atlas mountains or camel rides, but the souks, secret garden, various mosques, and many other places to visit are walking distance. The Riad is beautifully tiled, it runs over three floors, the top being a roof terrace with views over the city. The two courtyards have a plunge pool running between them. This was very welcome for cooling down on return from a trek round the sights. It was notable how cool the Riad stayed even though the outside temps were in the 40's. The rooms had air-conditioning that worked well and kept the rooms very cool day and night. Eating at the Riad was a blessing. Breakfast was excellent and varied, but include pancake type sweets, breads eggs, fresh fruit and juices. Mohamed is a fantastic cook. He prepared evening meals (3 courses) for us on two evenings. They were the cheapest and the best evening meals we had during our stay. The others were not bad, but Mohamed's food was outstanding, and it was really nice to eat on the roof terrace in the evening sun. The Riad was impeccably clean. It was also surprisingly quiet considering where it is. The staff could not have been more helpful. We found just hanging out in the Riad to be very relaxing and very comfortable. We had no complaints or concerns.
