Riad Of The Storks

We stayed at Riad of the Storks for our last night in Marrakesh in late March. Our waiter at a restaurant in Le Place des Ferbantiers recommended and contacted Omar who brought us to this gem. The initial feeling of peace and cleanliness (as we came through the front door) only grew as we were offered a choice of rooms after being shown the traditional ground floor layout. The spectacular hanging plants and a stately palm were evidence of care lavished on the property - the rooftop terrace was an unexpected suprise! It was a lovely setting for our breakfast the following morning (after remarking on the bouganvillea trained up the wall) we feasted on a variety of bread, really special honey, fig jam etc as well as the coffee and eggs brought up from the usual kitchen on the ground floor by Omar. It was delicious - and plentiful. Our room was excellent, tasteful white cotton bedlinen with adequate lighting and neat en-suite (rainforest) shower! Opening the shutters meant we had good ventilation and a lovely sight of the sky - as my understanding of a Riad was; (before, our previous encounter with a Riad had made us decide we were never coming back to Marrakesh!). We hope to come back to this excellent place - to further explore Morocco and all it has to offer - which is so different from our own situation, but we owe huge thanks to Omar for being a great host and explaining some of Berber culture to us. Our transfer to the Airport was organised for us and the calmness of the Riad of the Storks continued to change our view of Marrakesh long after our departure - indeed, a pearl of great worth!
