We felt like true Fez natives staying in this restored riad. It is in the heart of the medina, and it shares a common entrance and stairway with other Fez residents. One drawback is that one of the bedrooms – the one on the top floor – does not have a bathroom, so anyone staying in that room must go down a couple flights of stairs to use the bathroom and shower. Despite that, this place is highly recommended. The owner puts you in contact with Hafid and his staff, and they went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable – they arranged rides to and from the train station, they arranged a guide to show us through the souks one day, they gave us a cell phone to use to reach them at any time while in Fez, they provided linen and maid service, and they assisted us with getting laundry done while in Fez. The accommodations include the use of a roof terrace, where we enjoyed breakfast every morning, the beautiful “jewel box” bedroom on the top floor, replete with tile throughout and stained glass windows, and the main floor (which is on the third floor of the building, second from the top) containing a bedroom, large sitting area, small kitchen, lavatory, and shower. All in all, a wonderful place in the perfect location.
