Hotel Las Olas

La Palma is not a part island in the way that Tenerife is in parts. What it is a suprisingly green island which for its small proportions offers a relaxed and friendly place to get away from it all but without the excesses of so many over developed destinations. This 'apartment' hotel reflects the ethos of the island very well. What it is is friendly, comfortable, good value and well located for exporting the island. For those who like to do some DIY on holiday it offers basic kitchen facilities but for those who can't be bothered, it has a decent restaurant serving breakfast and dinner. I went for B&B as there are sufficient eateries in the resort to keep you satisfied - at least for a week. The place is spotless and well maintained throughout. It has a very nice pool area including a nice bar where you can get lunch and there are plenty of sun beds and umbrellas. The 'caipital' of Santa Cruz is a short bus ride away and these are pretty frequent - although you can also walk it in less than an hour which is a nice thing to do in any event. There were two slight things which could be improved. One is their weak internet facilities which I am informed they are about to address with a major upgrade. The second is that they asked for £30,00 euros in cash to secure use of the room safe. This I found annoying as I had budgeted for using cash without allowing for this which meant I then had to use a machine while there and then ended up getting 30 euros I did not want on check out. Clearly this is silly and the kind of irritation that will find expression on sites like this. However, to put things into proper perspective the main question is would I go again and to that the answer is yes.
