Seldom Hotel

I would like that you start understanding that this hotel here is a low class hotel, in terms of that I would guess that this place has no stars at all on the Michelin guide, and if Michelin visited, it would likely be given a minus star. But beware and behold. This hotel is maybe quite simple, but is has some properties which makes me come back again and again to this place. I guess that I have slept over here maybe 20 times or so, over the years, due to the following: The hotel is having simple rooms, indeed very simple. However there is a TV-set, and imagine - a phone to the reception in the room, then there is a shower, a bed, a chair, and that's it. And now to the cost: It cost USD 10 to stay overnight here, outside of season, and some USD 15 during the tourist season. USD 10!!! And then another wonderful thing: This place is sparkling clean. You may think that due to the rawness of the hotel, the concrete, the Italian style floor, that it is not clean, but you will experience that the beddings are smelling as your mother made them during your childhood. They are nothing to write home about in terms of the looks - but this is a hotel which accommodates every other Kenyan, so, you will be seeing how the usual Kenyan stays. So, if you are visiting Nairobi, imagine - you can stay here at 10% of the cost of the middle class hotels, and at 3% of the cost of the 5 star hotels. The food in this Seldom Hotel, in their common room at the first floor, is simple, but tasty. I can strongly recommend their breakfast - it is very typical Kenyan - a bit British inspired - and consist of: Sausage, Eggs, Coffee, and a Samosa or Mandazi if you want. You pay for each of the things - and you will end up paying in total maybe USD 3 or so per person. When you sleep over in the room - you will pay for the room, not for the number of persons, so, if you are 2 persons, then you still only pay USD 10 or USD 15. In terms of security, it is secure. The hotel is locked during the night, so I have never had any issues there.
