A lovely retreat about an hour and a half from Takayama. Absolutely worth the trip out there for gobsmacking views, beautiful onsen and fabulous meals in a friendly environment. If you are taking buses, you need to get good information from the tourist information bureau beside the station. Limited number of buses a day and some don't stop at the onsen so make sure you check it out. When you are out there only a very few buses leave from the nearest bus stop and more go from a stop about 20-30 minutes walk. So do check it out with the folks at the ryokan. The toy museum is now shut so not a good landmark. When you get out of the bus walk uphill and take the 2nd main driveway on the left. It is not clearly marked and we asked locals for help - which they gladly gave. Photographers heaven. Romantic retreat or just a very relaxing and invigorating place to stay.
