The service was excellent and very hospitable. The room was clean and comfortable.

The owner was beyond nice. Most of the time when we wanted to go anywhere within the city he would drive us there and sometimes he would come pick us up. After the first night when he picked us up from a restaurant I did not call him again for pickup and kept asking him to call us a cab to go to town, but still most times he would drive us. The rooms were clean and roomy compared to other Japanese hotels. We had two rooms with private bathrooms, but I think most rooms share bathroom. We ate breakfast there two days, which was great. Two down sides to the hotel, no phones so we could not do room to room calls when we needed to and the location. There is not much around there so if you want to grab a bite to each or shop or something you have to call a cab or the owner has to drive you there. At the same time we felt like we were in a cabin in the middle of a jungle, especially with all the sound from toucan birds and such. The owner was so nice and accommodating that the location was not a big deal. Overall this was an exceptionally pleasant stay.

We read a lot of review from the social media in Thailand. This place received such a good score and when we arrived I had no question why. The place itself is more like a home stay/ small hotel which offers both dinner and breakfast. The meals are so fantastic , the room and the living room are really comfortable. The service? Excellence !!! The owner Mr. Kaz is very friendly and very helpful in giving information about the touring.

The only drawback of this place is about the location since it is not access by the public bus but the owner offer a shutter service so it's not a big deal

We spent 2 days at this inn. The rooms were very comfortable and the inn-keeper could not have been more pleasant and helpful. The only draw-back to the inn is the distance from the station and restaurants. You can do this uphill walk in half an hour, but not with luggage. This didn't really matter though as our host drove us to and from the station. A very homely place to stay.

Kaze was extremely nice and helpful. 
He offered to pick us up after dinner and drove us to an Onsen place at 9pm. He also picked us back from there and dropped us at the train station in the morning.
We stayed in this guesthouse for one night and the room was really clean. 
The breakfast was quite good (European breakfast with eggs, bacon, salad, fruits and apple juice).
Even if the guest house is quite far from the center, I definitely recommend this place for anyone stopping by there for one night or two, it's worth it! Thank you Kaze:)

The business card for this establishment has the spelling of the name as L'ESCALE. This was a late minute booking, sight unseen and not reviewed. A fair distance out of town on a quiet road. We were met by the owner Kaz, and although the rooms weren't ready, he made us feel at home when we bought a few beers and sat on the verandah. The rooms are quite old with a boarding house feel. We booked a package with breakfast and dinner. After the first meal we knew we did the right thing as Kaz is also a chef. a brilliant meal served up by Kaz's wife and daughter in an old world dining room. The Accommodation has shared facilities which was OK. There is a large shower and sharing bath in one of the bathrooms. There is a lounge-room downs stairs with a sound system and small bar and would be good for a quiet space to read a book. Kaz was a brilliant host who was prepared to drive us into town 6 minutes away and also delivered us to the station when we left. A gem a little out of town but worth it.

Very nice and helpful people running the hotel. However, the place is VERY hard to find and reach, especially at night time. Moreover the room was exceptionally cold, including the mattress, so that I was forced to put a blanket below and another on top so as not to freeze. On the upside, as I said, the owner was really nice and even offered me to take me to the train station in the morning.

Feel like Home

We stayed here for a night in September. Our friends in Tokyo booked this accommodation, so we didn’t choose it. The location seemed like it was a little out of the way judging by our drivers various attempts to find it.

Once there, it was nice though. WIFI is strong and free throughout the pension. Meals were included which was good and bad, meaning that we didn’t get to choose our meals so due to allergies I couldn’t eat some of it.

We shared a room for 4 which was surprisingly comfortable but because it seemed that everything closed early in the town, we were kind of confined to our room all evening. The one thing that we requested was refrigeration for our drinks but to no avail. We did however get a cup of ice. 

The bathrooms are shared, but they are clean. The owner was lovely and took some commemorative photos of our group and also drove us back to the station, which was nice.

I’d probably try a different place if I stayed in Nikko again, just for variety’s sake.

The manager, Kazu, is exceptionally friendly and eager to help.  The pension is a ways out of town; Kazu drove us to/from sites when he was free, and taxis there are inexpensive.  The place is very clean although a bit frayed; it is best suited for the budget traveler.  Breakfast was good.
