Komagane Youth Hostel

I stayed this place to climb Mt.Kisokomagatake.

The owner couple was really nice and helpful. 
Although the building is a bit old, it is well-cleaned. Enough for one night stay before hiking. They let us leave our car in their parking while hiking. 

I think most of the guests are staying there for Mt. kisokomagatake hiking. So they wake up around 4am to catch the first bus.

Nice place to stay for Mt. Kisokomagatake hiking

This is a decent budget option in the beautiful mountain town of Komagane. The setting is great, in the forested suburb of the town on the edge of a small lake. It is a short 10min walk to the town center and there is no shortage of mountain trails for hiking, walking, running, etc. in the immediate area. Very nice and relaxing place to spend a few days.

The hostel is pretty much what you’d expect from a hostel – basic rooms with shared ablutions. We got a private double room, Japanese style, for about $77. The room was sparsely furnished but the futon beds were very comfortable and we had a great sleep. The room, as well as the rest of the hostel, was spotlessly clean and very well maintained and appeared to be well managed. Bathroom facilities were shared, but again everything was very clean and functional. There was a good kitchen/dining area and a free basic breakfast (2 pieces of bread and coffee) was included in the price. There is no onsen on site, but you get a discounted price at the onsen at the hotel next door, and that was pretty nice, especially as it was cold and rainy when we were there. The manager was very friendly and helpful and spoke a smidgen of English. 

One of the things we disliked about youth hostels is all the regimented rules and regulations. At times we felt like we were back in school. Shared ablutions are a real drag also. Although we had a good stay here, we felt it wasn’t great value for money, but we would stay here again given the chance. If you are traveling on a tight budget and don’t mind the hostel scene, this is the place for you. Otherwise spring for a private hotel room in one of the many nearby hotels for roughly twice the price.
