Hasegawa

Hasegawa has all the right features for a hot spring motel. We stayed there overnight which s a typical length of stay and felt ourselves wrapped in a warm cloud of comfort the whole time we were there. The building itself is pretty old. The rooms are Japanese-style but a little boxy. The common areas upstairs are functional if you go with a group and want to hang out with them in the evening. The bath is angular and unimaginative, but who cares? It is full of piping hot water with delicious steam rising from it. The food was absolutely wonderful We had the full seafood dinner and loved every dish. We were particularly impressed by the waitress who spent 1 minutes getting the meat out of each of our crabs for us. For an extra 2,000 yen (each!) we could have had the meal served in our room, but we settled for the common dining room - an experience i itself, with individual tables for each party a tatami floor and waitresses hovering. When we got back to our room, the beds were laid out for us on the floor What lovely service. Breakfast was full-on Japanese, rice, raw egg, grilled fish seaweed, miso soup, which is fine for one meal but I wouldn't want it every day. We liked the lobby. There were two wood-burning stoves, life-size models of some pretty evil-looking samurai-type characters and lots of traditional bric-a-brac. Newspapers, a bar and a gift shop. The bath was typical rather than special. One for men, one for women. An indoor part and an outdoor part. All the hot water you could want. So relaxing. Altogether, a fun place to stay with a great gastronomic experience.
