Palazzo Guardi

Firstly, bear in mind that this is not a typical hotel with the standard layout of a reception desk directly accessed from the street. The entrance is down a narrow alley with just a plaque on the wall showing the hotel name and an intercom buzzer to contact the receptionist. But, the buzzer is answered immediately and the staff are very friendly. Once you're in, reception is up on the third floor. The lift is very very slow, so leave your luggage downstairs and walk up to reception to check in. This is because you might be in the other building which is back along the canal and you don't want to carry your bags up for no reason. The receptionist will take you to your room and show you where breakfast is. Many of the rooms are straight off the breakfast area, which we were a bit worried about, but actually we had no problem with noise. The rooms are very spacious and immaculately clean. The bed and pillows are very comfortable. The bathroom was spotless. There is a coffee machine with a few pods and a couple of bottles of water and all are replenished daily. We also had a safe and mini fridge. Breakfast is a fairly basic affair but we found enough options to fill us up. The location is excellent. Very close to Academia bridge which will take you across to all the touristy stuff, but located in Dorsoduro which is quieter, has better value restaurants and a better vibe than the other side of the Grand Canal. I've stayed in more expensive hotels in Venice which were without doubt way more luxurious than Palazzo Guardi, but I would absolutely recommend this hotel as Venice is expensive and you'll spend very little time in your room, so the price point here is, in my opinion, spot on.
