Il Chicco d'Oro

I haven't seen all the rooms/apartments at Il Chicco d'Oro, but the one we shared with friends had three bedrooms and two bathrooms, complete with a large size living room and attached covered terrace. It was a part of a large duplex, too, so I'm guessing the other half is just as well appointed and comfortable. The place is very nice and clean, the owners go out of the way to make it comfortable. Luca even brought us some fresh eggs, still warm and straight from under a hen! All apartments and houses are on private land - there's a stretch of a private road connecting them up, and you can't help feeling you've become an integral part of the village.There's a small swimming pool complete with sunbeds and umbrellas and a playground for little kids (a swing and a slide). All around you are fields, vineyards and olive trees: the owners proudly offer to sample their own produce. We most enjoyed well chilled white wine. The looks of the nondescript bottle are misleading, and inside is a well balanced and crisp white, perfectly refreshing after a long day spent driving from one place to another... Speaking of driving: Il Chicco d'Oro is 5 mins from Autostrada, so getting to Pisa, Lucca, Firenze and other places is a breeze. Or take a picturesque route through Massarossa and other towns, strewn link beads along the winding regional road. And when you get back enjoy a barbeque on the terrace (just don't forget to buy coals!)
