Sul Prado

Pietrasanta is a compact and very beautiful town with upmarket shops and restaurants and plenty to see and do, and from Sul Prado you can easily reach anywhere you might want to go. It is on the corner of the square by the 'Fat Soldier' statue, set in an old building that houses a small row of shops. We were slightly nonplussed by the system - I don't regularly check my mobile phone, and missed the message explaining how to gain access. The front wrought iron gate was locked, but opens with a code which had been sent to us on the morning of our arrival, as do the rooms inside. Each door has a keypad just to the right. Fortunately there were leaflets with a phone number at the gate. It should be noted that like many historic buildings in the area, this is not a good place for anyone with limited mobility; the B&B itself is up a couple of steps, and the rooms are up some flights of stone steps inside to the second floor. The rooms have high wooden ceilings and are spacious and clean with attractive furnishings and a good, spotlessly clean and well equipped bathroom. As they overlooked the busy square they were not particularly quiet, though despite finding a market on the doorstep in the morning, we slept very well. In the room there is a card explaining that we could take breakfast at a choice of nearby cafes. We chose the bakery, just down the main shopping street (past the picture frame sculpture). Although they said we could have whatever we liked, it felt slightly awkward, but we had yoghurt, freshly squeezed juice, and sweet and savoury pastries, and coffee. We would certainly stay again at Sul Prado, and recommend it (and Pietrasanta) to you.
