Hotel Miramare

The name of the hotel in Italian means: looking at the sea or admiring the sea. And so it is, just in front of the sea of one of the best know town in the Versilia coast in Tuscany, Viareggio. This hotel is right in the centre of town ,along a wide main road rimmed with beautiful period buildings on one side and a seaside promenade on the other, full of fashionable boutiques, restaurants,cafes,ice cream parlours. A very lively place with music in the evening for the pleasure of the colourful crowd of elegantly dressed Italians mostly, but also tourists from other parts of the world. My room on the first floor,which I shared with husband and daughter,had a balcony from where we could just watch life passing by and sunset in the evening. Quite large actually because it was one main room with a double bed and a smaller one with two single beds. Very comfortable for three people. Good size bathroom with shower and several clean towels. The amazing position of the hotel allows you to reach the walking area and spend a lovely evening out just in front of the hotel or explore the rest of the town walking. All the beaches are equipped with umbrellas and long chaises, but not free. Although, within six kms by car, you can reach a beautiful protected area of pine trees wood from where you can reach a wide beach with clear sea and an amazing view of Apuan Alps. Plenty of parking just out of the hotel. We were given a space as guests for only ten euros for two days and nights. so in case ask for it. Good breakfast included in the price. We spent only two days here as part of a tour of some Italian regions and liked it a lot. Only a few things to improve though, like a fridge in the room and changing the window in the main room as it doesn't shut properly. You might want to do it at night,as the hotel being on a main road can get noisy. Still, if it's hot there is free air conditioning! And free wifi. Shame you have to keep putting the long password every hour or so. With a bit of a working on it,this could become an excellent hotel.
