Siqillya B&B

We needed a place to stay because we wanted to visit Ragusa, little realising that the place we ended up staying – Siqillya B&B - would itself become one of the highlights of our visit, thanks to Manuela and Marco, the wonderful couple running it. On a practical level it had everything we were looking for in a B&B; housed in a nicely renovated old building, it was conveniently located in the centre of Ragusa Superiore with easy parking within just a few minutes walk (parking can otherwise be a bit of a problem in Ragusa). The room was a good size, clean and comfortable, as well as tastefully furnished, with a great bathroom, and wifi. It was also very well priced. So far so good! But the added value of staying at Siqillya really becomes apparent when you first show up for breakfast with your hosts, who by the way speak very good English. M&M put on a lovely spread with all sorts of delicious homemade local treats, from freshly squeezed orange juice and carob syrup, to apple pies and breads, and a host of other delicacies I can’t remember the names of, all made using completely organic fresh fruit from Manuela’s home garden. And while Marco kept a steady supply of delicious coffee coming – the best coffee in all of Sicily - Manuela provided us with all sorts of useful and interesting local information and recommendations for things to do and places to eat that you won’t find in any guidebooks, along with plenty of maps and brochures, that really helped us make the most of our visit. They are both very knowledgeable about the area and are happy to share what they know. And to top it all off, for a very reasonable additional fee, they took us on a wonderful two-hour hike through a beautiful gorge that brings you unexpectedly to the very foot of stunning Ragusa Ibla. Ragusa and the surrounding countryside are beautiful and full of things to see and do, and we would have enjoyed it no matter what. But staying at Siqillya really helped bring out the unique qualities of the area, and made it all that much more accessible, enjoyable, relaxing, and ultimately unique. I highly recommend staying here!
