Berghotel Kasern und Tauernrast

The Bus stop is just a few mins to the Hotel. So it was easy to drag our luggage. The person in charge is Gunter. We were given a room on the 3rd floor with a lovely view of a waterfall in the distance.One drawback is that there is no lift. But this is an old building so that's to be expected.Gunter was very helpful and carried our 2 suitcases up. We were also given bus passes that could be used in Vale Aurina. That was a real Bonus. In fact , we were given this in the 3 places where we stayed in the Dolomites, which was very convenient. Room 302 was very comfortable and clean.There were bedside lamps, table, 2 chairs and a TV. Radiator in room and Bathroom. A cupboard with shelves. The best part was the Balcony. The Bathroom was small but it was ok for us.Good hot water. 2 big and small towels. Hand wash clamped to wall.Hair dryer. It's the last Hotel on the road and it's the starting point for many hikes. We did part of Path 11 and 15. What ever you do you will have fantastic views. The flat walk is the one that takes you to San Spiritu church accompanied all along with the sound of a stream. Take some time to admire the beautiful wood sculptures of the Way of the Cross. Tuesdays and Thursdays, there is a Farmer's Market with local meats, essential oils, flavourings and some yummy snacks. This is just behind the Info Centre that is just 5 mins from the Hotel. The staff at this place were super helpful.Plenty of Info and Leaflets. As we went Half Board, we were asked to mark what we wanted from a list of 6 or 7 items. There was an array of items for the Buffet salad and Dessert.( Tiramisu, Pannacotta, Gelato, Fruit with homemade Yogurt.Dinner was interesting, delicious and filling. The Dumpling soup was flavourful.The ravioli packets were yum. Plenty of places to visit. The Minerale Museum had many interesting stones and well labelled. They close for lunch 12 30 to 2. There are some lovely churches closes by. Take the Klausberg Cable Car up the Mountain for some more fantastic views. On the whole, the ambiance of the Hotel gave a very relaxed feel with its corridors filled with some antique furniture and pictures. A cute attic houses a library. When it was time to leave, (Gunter had told us that there would be someone to help) we looked for some strong young man. As there was no one, two very delicate looking girls volunteered to carry our luggage down. That was very kind of them and we are grateful for that. For us the experience here was wonderful.
