Agriturismo Podere San Michele

My wife and I had heard a lot about the italian agriturismo concept: stay at a farm (or: farm hotel), enjoy the nature far away from the city bustle, delve into the food that is produced on the farm. Podere San Michele was all that we expected - and much more! This agriturismo is a bit out of the way - you have to go there by car - but when you've found it, there are only a few kilometers to a fantastic Puglia beach (Baia dei Turchi) with crystal blue water and fine sand. The lovely seaside town of Otranto is just around the corner. More so: many of the other attractions in this fantastic region (Lecce, Alberobello, Ostuni, Locorotondo) are just a day trip away. But San Michele is an attraction in its own sense: the owner, Massimo, and his wife have gone out of their way to create an oasis of calm and tranquility just a few hundred meters away from an idyllic lake. They're incredibly forthcoming and sweet and made us feel right at home. Our room was basic but clean and met our expectations perfectly. The restaurant were Massimo and co. served their own produce was a highlight on our 3-week road trip through Italy! And believe me, we had a lot of great food during that trip! Five stars is the maximum on Tripadvisor - I'd give this place six, if I could!
