20 reviewsI might never have chosen Domus Lafelia, but I was booking quite literally the last available room in town. A friend and I decided on 48 hours notice to drive up to the beautiful little mountain town of Bagnoli Irpino for their annual Sagra del Tartufo Nero e della Castagna (Black Truffle and Chestnut Festival). We knew we'd be sampling plenty of the local vino, so we needed a place to sleep over. I scoured the hotel search engines and phoned several hotels, and this was the only room available -- this is the 39th year of the Sagra, and its visitors well outnumber the town's population of 3300. Domus Lafelia is a small osteria/restaurant with four rooms to rent: two family rooms with a queen plus a set of bunk beds, and two small rooms with just bunk beds. We got the last of the small rooms for less than my usual Friday night bar tab. It's in the historical town center, just a block from Piazza Umberto I. Parking is in a public lot a few hundred yards down the road, or curbside if you can find a spot. The last hundred yards to the hotel is up a small pedestrian road with stairs (not wheelchair accessible). The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The building is ancient, but the inside has been remodeled fairly recently, and the amenities were more than acceptable for the price. There's a terrace off the dining room with an amazing view of the valley below. The room was small and simple - just the beds, a small desk and chair, and a TV - but it was comfortable and quiet, with a roomy, modern bathroom. We didn't watch TV, but they have Sky. WiFi is free, and it worked fine. The bunk beds looked a little cheap, but they were solid and comfy. N.B. - You'll find a much better deal booking directly than on the hotel search sites, with the option of including one, two, or all three meals. We didn't eat there, but whatever was cooking when we checked in smelled amazing. This was my first trip to Bagnoli Irpino, but it won't be my last... and this is the first place I'll look for a room next time!
