Hotel Adriatico

It is with great fondness and gratitude that I write my second review of this outstanding hotel. I had the pleasure of staying at the Adriatico in the summer of 2014 with my wife and two children (then 7 years old). This time we were a party of 3 adults and our stay consisted of 6 nights during the first week of August. We stayed in room 22 in the residence across from the main hotel. It consists of a large one-bedroom suite with an in-room safe, sitting area with a flat screen TV, sofa, cot, kitchenette (which we did not use at all) bathroom and large balcony. The room is well appointed, extremely clean and everything (including the air conditioning) was in good working order. By European standards the room is huge. No complaints at all. The private beach is a short walk across the street - perhaps a couple of hundred metres. It is clean and every guest has a reserved lounge chair and umbrella for their exclusive use free of charge. There is a pool off from the dining area which we enjoyed most afternoons. It is ample and never crowded. While I did notice that there was a kid’s club and animation team I cannot comment as I had no children with me this trip and did not avail myself of their services. We, like virtually every guest, chose the full “pensione” consisting of breakfast, lunch and dinner. The breakfast was Italian style, with a large selection of coffees, teas, juices, cereal, yogurt, cheese, cold cuts, pastries and other goodies. Lunch and Dinner is where this hotel shines. There is always a choice of 3 entrees and 3 mains to fit all culinary tastes. The food is honest, home style meals using the freshest ingredients. Nothing pretentious just great Italian fool like mother would make. A platter of fresh fruit is a staple at every meal. The maître d (Valerio) and the entire staff were courteous and attentive and only too happy to accommodate our every request. The entire Canadian contingent staying at the Adriatico (22 people) boasted that guests of any other hotel in Vasto paid too much; even if they stayed for free. The food alone is worth the price charged. My lasting impression is of an extremely clean family run operation where the owners (Lino and Garbriella) are friendly and courteous. The hotel predominantly serves Italian tourists and it is not uncommon to meet guests who have been returning year after year. I am not surprised. I have had the privilege of vacationing in Italy on scores of occasions and stayed in hotels in virtually every region of the country. I have never felt so welcome and appreciated. If I am ever in the area again, which I certainly hope to be, I will be sure to pop into the Adriatico for a couple of nights and visit with my friends. Thank you Lino and Gabriella. You are awesome.
