Hotel Calgary

I spent a whole week with relatives of a "piena pensione" plan (room, three meals, beach umbrella, and chairs). Hotel Calgary is a family-run business with a strong connection to Canada (the parents both lived in Calgary, Alberta, their first two of three children were born there and all speak English). The family is ever-present on the premises ensuring that everything runs smoothly and customer requests are dealt with; they have their own table in the dining hall and eat there all their lunches and dinners, sometimes just them sometimes with visiting friends. The room we had was fair size with all modern amenities; it was clean and comfortable. The meals are a real treat at Hotel Calgary. Every morning breakfast buffet (fruit, pastries, yogurts, cereals, coffee, etc.) is served on the front outdoor patio. Lunch and supper choices are selected by the guest the previous day and include a primo (appetizer), a secondo (main dish) and a side dish. At the end of each meal, you have a choice of fruit or granita (lemon sorbet). On Thursday evening there was a special dinner ("Abruzzese evening") where a lot of local specialties were served to the guests on the outdoor patio with music and later dancing. The cuisine at Hotel Calgary is creative and uses fresh local ingredients. The menu is varied, portions are just right, and it's simple but very delicious. The beach is right across the little road. It is clean, quiet and enjoyable. There is a bar-café on the premises where you can have, coffee, drinks or cocktails prior to meals and after meals. The service throughout is just impeccable and the price for the stay is most reasonable. Hotel Calgary is worth a return visit hands down.
