Gaines Country House

This was everything you could want from a B&B. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. Very friendly hosts who are happy to chat and share information and travel advice. It is a few km out of Kenmare which is a delightful town with plenty of eating options. It is also a good location from which to explore the surrounding areas.

We spent 2 nights at Gaines Country House and  I have to write, as I have never, in all my travels felt so truly welcome.  The hosts really couldn't do enough for us. 
The room was well appointed and the breakfast absolutely delicious but the star of the show are the hosts. Full of warmth and good humour and seemingly with all the time in the world to help us with our travel plans, impart local knowledge etc. They even seemed to be genuinely happy to have our kids running riot. 
If you want to feel like you are staying with your oldest friends then head to Gaines Country House (and make sure to order the blueberry pancakes for breakfast!)

The place is just fantastic as well as the owners. Very clean, ample, with a lot of light in the rooms. The night before you are asked what you want for breakfast, so when you wake up and go to the dining room, our table was ready with a very tasty meal. 

Special mention is the big help the owners provided us the night of our arrival. We were driving to Kenmare when in a very narrow road full of rocks hidden by vegetation and I destroyed a tire with one of these rocks.. It was already getting dark. With the help of a lady from a close home I called the B&B telling that I was going to arrive late. And would had to wait to call a carshop to help me changing the tire. I have low back problems and two hip replacements.They offered to come and help us, they were only some few miles away. They changed the tire, guided us to the hotel, they prepared dinner for us at no additional expense and wished us a good night. Next morning, a Sunday, they had already made an appointment at a tire place to provide us with a new tire.
This is something we will never forget, and in the future if we find somebody in a similar situation, we will repay their help, assisting others. A BIG THANK YOU!!!!

This B & B is far more roomy than most with a large bedroom with a small but very efficient ensuite.  The highlight is Colin and his Mum.  Colin has that touch of Irish charm we expected to see more of on our trip.  A fascinating, intelligent young man.  He is extremely knowledgeable about places to visit and their ranking and right on with his Restaurant recommendations.  His mother prepared a delicious breakfast. Although the location is a little out of town its rural setting was quiet and peaceful and  you were well on your way to start the Ring of Kerry.

Beautiful b&b, where I felt like at home !  Colin and his mom where very kind and attentive, and I spent two lovely days there.
The room were comfortable, very quiet and the breakfast fabulous ! All the pancakes lovers will rejoice in the delicious blueberry pancakes !
