Nice to get something which wasn't expected before. This place has really big room and very cheap price. They have doing eenovation for couple years which hasn't finish yet. They brings us to be the local .really enjoy the visit and having nice time.

People are really nice. great hospitality, they help you a lot to show you arround before you know the sorroundings, they have a great culture, he bring be to the fish market until cock fighting, and also brought me to the night life for young people.

Feel like you're at home, john is giving information all you need.  Bringing you around  showing you all the local restaurant beach around providing transportation starting with rental motorbike until bringing you with his own car and transfer you to the nearest harbor to go other destination like gili absolutely i will highly recommend

We had a good stay at surfer cave. The place is near the beach (about 5-10 minutes by scooter) and some bars/restaurants. The family who runs the place is very sweet, however they hardly speak English so it's hard to communicate. Tho they so anything for you of they'll know what your question is. The pool is not available and the kitchen/lounge area can use some fix ups. The rooms are nice and clean. If you come to socialise with other backpackers, this might not be the place because it's very quiet.

Great Place

It took us a while before we decided to write a review. And we decided to write it because the other reviews are not realistic in our opinion.

The surfer cave is a home stay with two rooms far away from the main streets with ongoing construction activities on the premises. As it is a family business you depend on them in breakfast, transportation and others. 
Our room was fanned as described, however it was small and it only had a cold shower. The room was very musty, as if cleaning happens only on occassion, the shower didn't work properly because of the thick layer of limescale on the shower head, and the sink was covered in moss. 

John is a friendly host and he helped us a lot when both ours bank passes where taken by ATMs. However, in a few situations he could not combine being a guide and his other job as real estate agent. He did help us with transportation, then left us in the middle of a city unknown to us with the words "the beach is in that direction" - which surprised us because we didn't want to go to the beach - and drove off. We had difficulty in getting back to the homestay from where he left us because the homestay and the neighbourhood where it is situated are so obscure that no taxi-driver knew how to get there. John's son Michael is now 14 years old and enjoys surfing and can help you with the first steps when you start surfing, however he is not an instructor. When John wasn't available to help us with transport, he let his 14-year old boy drive us in his car. 

Although our hosts were impeccably kind and hospitable, we did not enjoy our holiday in Bali because of the low standard of cleanliness in the homestay, the difficulties in getting around from an obscure neighbourhood in the back country, and the surprises that come with staying with a family for which the homestay is not the only source of income, so that our gentleman host had to suddenly leave us in a place where we did not want to be so that he could go to his other job. Much room for improvement.
